Hi,

I have a smartphone but its 8 years old (Samsung SM-J330FN).

Its not with a mobile phone account so i just use it by logging into my laptop internet.

I tried to verify my linkedin account. So i needed to download the linkedin app on the smartphone. However, i just get a message saying "your device isnt compatible with this version".

As such, it looks like i will have to buy a new smartphone. Do i have to get a phone contract aswell? Or can i just use any smartphone with my EE Mobile router internet account which i use with my laptop?

Which is the cheapest smartphone for this purpose of verifying my Linkedin Account?. I am with EE on my mobile router and "dumbphone" account, so is it likely to be best to also go with EE for the smartphone?

If i see a cheap smartphone and wish to buy it, how do i know it will be able to download and install the Linkedin App so that i can verify my Linkedin Account?

Would this £13 smartphone allow me to verify my linkedin account?

Thanks, ive tried to find out about other ways but cant. It seems you need the high quality camera thats on a smartphone, and also an NFC chip reader is required which smartphones have (i hope they all have it?). Buying a separate NFC chip reader, would, i believe, be more costly than buying a cheap smartphone.(?)

I've had a (little used) Linked in account on my PC for many years but never needed to associate it with my mobile phone

I think this is likely what it is, unless your account is suspected of being fake, in which case you can be asked to verify you are a real person as LinkedIn does not allow accounts that are not in the person's legal name, or a variant of (e.g. Matt for Matthew).

I used Linkedin using only a browser so no app download required. I would not give them my phone number and have recently closed
my account because they constantly send me stupid messages of no interest to me no matter what privacy and notification settings
I choose. Closing the account seemed the only option left and so far that seems to be working.

Thanks yes i can access linkedin on my laptop, but not on my old smartphone.

I definitely need to verify with linkedin as it prooves i am not just a cybot or whatever. Thing is , how do you find out the cheapest smartphone which allows access to linkedin? And allows you to verify.

Yes i think it gives you a green tick when verified.

Linkedin is everything in my trade of electronics…everybody goes by the linkedin account and its details.

Any modern smart phone will be able to run the app. Current app requires Android 9 minimum and latest Android version is 16 so even pretty old phones will run it. The spec for your current phone says it should be at Android 9 but the security will be out of date. You just need to check that any phone has NFC in the spec if that is what you need. The one you linked to is out of stock though. You can get a phone from anywhere and just put the SIM from your old phone into it, it is a nano SIM so will fit a newer model.
