I need a refund from LIGHT IN THE BOX retailer.

The online shopping app LIGHT IN THE BOX has made it impossible to return for refund. Parents bought some sofa covers from one of their facebok adverts (I told them to never buy from facebook) and they spent £105 on what look like a £10 product at most, the covers are an absolute joke.

I am trying to help them get a refund but this app retailer have made it near impossible to do so.. first you have to download their app, but once in there's no way to get a refund… no process nothing.

Will the bank do a charge back? £105 is too much to spend on this shoddy product.

Please let me know how I can get a refund. They have not repied to my message i left in the app. And there are no emails or phone numbers… They should not be allowed to operate.

Looks like a Chinese company (office in Hong Kong). You have pretty much zero chance of getting a refund out of them.

    How did you parents pay?

Unfortunately they have purchased from an Asian company selling cheap carp and to get a refund you will need to ship back to them, in Asia, at your cost bearing in mind that the item will likely never be received so no refund. For a successful chargeback you will need to return the item …… see previous comment ! An expensive lesson ……… never buy anything from these cheap Asian websites, even more so when they are advertising on social media. A quick look at their website screams run away and don't touch even with someone else's 6ft pole.

I wouldn't expect much joy from contacting them given they're in China - their address is in the terms of business:

Unit 89 3/F Yau Lee Centre No.45 Hoi Yuen Road Kwun Tong, Hong Kong

Generally for a chargeback you will have to return the goods, though some claim exceptions. The problem is that sending stuff to China is much more expensive for us than it is them to do the reverse and tracking tends to become poor once it hits China so many will dispute the chargeback saying the goods were never received back.

I think they must have used their debit card… I told them to never buy anything advertised on facebook!

How on earth Meta allows this is beyond me. They have literally robbed my parents!

Are you accusing Meta or the retailer of literally robbing your parents? The latter's only 'crime' is to sell stuff that you feel is overpriced (and not to have particularly contactable post-sale support), and so it follows that Meta haven't done anything wrong at all here…

Sadly (being kind) does not cover change of mind, or quality of goods (too subjective).

Whilst Meta haven't directly robbed the OP's parents, I'd dispute the claim that they've done nothing wrong.

Fraud - both direct fraud (money taken and nothing sent) and more "fuzzy" cases (where the delivered product looks nothing like the ad) - is absolutely rampant on Facebook. Think about how many threads we see on here that start along the lines of "I bought something from Facebook…".

Meta absolutely could do something about it, but they choose not to because it would cost money and all they care about are profits.

Sure, I wouldn't disagree with most of that, but in this case there's no evidence of fraud, and the nature of what you label as 'fuzzy' cases is that they're essentially subjective, so Chinese sellers flogging tat isn't in itself unlawful.

As far as banks go on card usage. Fraud is when a unknown 3rd party has used your card details. When you have used your card details to purchase something, then all you can do is dispute a transaction.

So unless you can prove not as described in this case (quality is not something covered) then there is no way via chargeback to claim money back.
