Is BT correct ?

I currently use BT for landline only and Plusnet for Broadband. BT have just sent me a letter claiming that "you can no longer take broadband and landline from different providers" due to digital upgrade.

". . . you'll need to switch to BT Broadband etc etc"

Is this true or is it a sales pitch?

They're not correct in the general sense, but they might be correct in your particular case.

You're currently paying "line rental" to BT?

Copper is being phased out, so they probably require your connection be updated to fibre in the near future. I seem to recall that Plusnet do not provide any "landline" option via fibre. So to keep your landline working it would probably be required to use a single provider, but not necessarily BT.

I updated to full fibre a while ago and my provider (Trooli) do not support landlines. I considered porting my landline number to VOIP but after reviewing call logs I realised 95% or more was spam/scam. So I opted to lose the landline.

Ok, so what's changing is that analogue telephony is being switched off. You'll still be able to have a fixed telephone with your landline number but it will be supplied digitally using your broadband service.

I don't think Plusnet (who are part of BT) will be offering a digital phone line service, but BT will. So BT are suggesting that you switch your broadband to BT and then you can keep bilorh services with them.

But, of course, you could switch away to one of the other 50+ broadband suppliers. Many of these can also offer digital phone lines; I've got exactly that with Vodafone.

They're kind of correct. As mentioned, the analogue telephone (PSTN) service is being shut off so you'll only be able to get digital telephony via your your broadband provider so you won't be able to have a separate service.

They are 100% correct, your current services cannot continue as is, and they have advised you of the change if you want to carry on with phone and broadband from BT Group.

as stated they are absolutely 100% correct , there is no ambiguity at all , the product you are on Shared Metallic Path Facility (SMPF) cannot exist in an all IP (internet protocol) world , you don’t have to take BT if you don’t want to , but you cannot stay as you are , what’s more it’s ridiculous to have ever been on this in the last decade or so , when it’s probably 50% to100% more expensive doing this than having both services with one provider.
