P45 received for ESA claim
I receive the high rates for PIP and also have been claiming ESA contribution based for many years. I do not qualify for income related benefits.
I have today received a P45 for ESA which says date allowance ceased 3rd February 2026.
I have had no other notification from ESA at all.
Is there any reason they would stop my ESA payments now?
I also received a separate letter dated 28th January saying i was entitled to contribution based ESA at £145.90 from 8th April 2026

It may be related to the different types of ESA as not all ESA payments are taxable.
If DWP will no longer be paying taxable ESA that could be the reason for the P45.

my husband is on cont based esa. He got a p45 in the post with no cover letter saying his esa ended 16 Jan. he has since had 2 fortnightly payments on the same date his esa is due.
the link above is for my thread“I knew who i was this morning, but I’ve changed a few times since then”

It is to do with the 'Old Style' ESA being automatically changed to 'New Style' ESA.
That means that the 'Old Style' closes and the 'New Style' opens on the same day to takes over seamlessly.
You still have ESA, which will still be paid, it's just got a slightly different name.
It's that 'Old Style' one closing that means the computer automatically generates a P45 just for the record - but you don't need to do anything with it.

I Phoned them today and this is exactly right. I hope anyone else who receives a P45 without any other letter can see this thread. The DWP should really send an attached letter to say what you have wrote. Its very stressful receiving a P45 at the weekend saying payments will stop on a certain date. Thank you so much for this

Okay an update on my claim. Seems my claim has been totally messed up. I usually get £281.10 every 2 weeks ESA Contribution Based in the Support Group and its paid fortnightly on a Tuesday. I called Monday about receiving a P45 and was told this was just a name change to new ESA and payments would continue as normal. The payment today says DWPJSA £20.07.
The automated service says the next payment due is £140 on the 3rd March (which should be £281.10 fortnightly)
I have called ESA today who have said i am definitely not on JSA (that was a manual payment) and he has asked a 'financial department' to call me back.
So today i have £20.07 to last the next two weeks (this would normally be £281.10)
I am waiting and hoping for a call from this 'financial department' in ESA
I am writing this to help anyone else who may have come across problems with the ESA Contribution Based

That just looks like the change over from Old/New ESA again, and the fact that the payment came through JSA supports that.
£20.07 is one days worth of CB ESA Support Group.
So that will be 1 day of your 'Old Style' ESA SG for the 3rd Feb.
It has been paid using the JSA "Fast Payment" system because (Old Style) ESA didn't/doesn't have their own system for 1-off payments so they use the (Old Style) JSA system instead - any 1-off payment of (Old Style) ESA comes through the JSA system.
You should also, either later today or tomorow, get the remaining 13-days worth (£261.03) as the first of your "New Style' ESA.
You should then be back to another full 14-days worth of ESA SG (£281.10) on March 3rd which will all be New Style ESA.

The same happened on the other thread I linked too.
One payment marked ESA & one payment for one days worth marked JSA, received on the same day.
You have until 11:59 pm today to receive the remaining money owed.

Thank you again for the re-assurance. I do get very stressed over these things

my DH had a payment of about £20 saying JSA. Then another payment of the rest of his amount saying ESA. His next payment 2 weeks later was all ESA
The JSA payment was the amount of a ESA day payment and not the amount of a JSA payment
