Worcester Bosch, Fixed Price Repair and GasSafe.

    Soz :-)

(I couldn't get an embedded video on my phone, but the links will take you to what's involved.)

£500 all in for the fix.

    Ouch!

Cheaper than a new boiler though I suppose we'll have to start considering one in the near future as £500 would be a reasonable chunk of a new boiler replacement.

Will have to get a quote off the chap when he's out.

Also on the topic of which, when 'do you' replace your boiler?

You don't want to wait for yours to blow & then you're dealing with a horror scenario but similarly you don't want to replace it needlessly as it's not cheap.

    Ouch indeed.

Did he not provide a quote first?

Anyhoo, please confirm the new parts, but I'm going to guess that your boiler is now good for - ooh - 5 years or so.

I wouldn't worry about getting quotes for its replacement at the moment, as HP (soz! Heat Pump) technology is improving all the time, and cost being lowered.

It'll be interesting to see what's available in 5+ years time.

they’ll most probably be a change in government and a end of subsidies for HP, more use of fossil fuels. Crystal ball times.

A thankyou is payment enough .

When I said quote I was meaning for a total new boiler install so that we have an idea. Obviously prices can and will change but it'd give us an idea of today's pricing.

A lad I worked with is pally with a plumber it turns out & he told him about my situation. Guy reckoned up I was being overcharged. Obviously that's via he says she says as he hasn't inspected it himself. Whether we' re being overcharged or not you either accept the price or don't, get it fixed or don't.

The way I see it is this is the guy we tried, he came out pronto & he's willing to fix it & we need it fixed. It's a lot of money but in theory once he's done that should be it, fixed.

Regards new stuff & heat pumps, haven't I heard that in terms of tumble driers?

If that's the setup with them then I read about owners grumbling about that recently. Complaining their clothes don't dry out compared to the old vented driers.

Obviously if it's not heat pump I'm thinking of or if it's a different type of technology entirely but still called HP then ignore what I said.

Same essential technology, but on a bigger scale, and pretty reliable. I'm surprised you haven't heard of them as a home heating method.

Anyhoo, your boiler is fixed, and I'm assuming the guy replaced a good number of parts for that sum (what's on the invoice?). So, you should be good for a looong while.

Only time I ever heard of heat pumps was in relation to tumble driers within the past few years tbh.

As for the invoice, I'll let you know when he does the job later in the week :)

I'm hoping it doesn't just say something like "boiler repair: £500".

    It isn't actually fixed yet?!

Hmm, a FPR would almost certainly be significantly less, but carries the risk of them saying BER, and handing you a £95 invoice just for looking.

I guess you are committed to this repair, so I hope - imagine it will be - very comprehensive indeed, as he implied.

Just about every vulnerable-to-failure component should be replaced :-)

    His invoice should be detailed.

Nope he's due out at the end of the week. Last weekend was an assessment. He's priced the job up & with the days that someone can & can't be at the house he's scheduled for the end of the week.
