Cancelling contract with 3, advice needed please
Hi
This week on the 9th February I received an email from 3 telling me a number was now out of contract! The phone number quoted nobody in my family have used for at least 3 years! It looks like we have been paying £32.17 a month having not used the phone for calls, texts or data!
Today I have telephoned 3 to ensure the contract is cancelled, and requesting a refund...ideally 3 years worth!
I'm hitting a brick wall! They are basically saying its my fault for not cancelling the contract years ago.
Do you think there is anything I can do please? I have today cancelled the contract, and am awaiting a call back from a manager……..still waiting 2 hours later

Yes, it's 100% your fault, who did you expect to cancel a continous contract.
You may get some goodwill gesture but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Lesson here is check your bank statements more often.

At some point, over three years ago you were using the phone number in question.
How do you think you ended service on that number?
Did you request a PAC or STAC and not use them?
Phone companies will not end service unless you explicitly ask them to, or you stop paying for the service.
Maybe you need to review how you reconcile your monthly spend on your accounts if £32 was being paid out for no benefit.

I'm sure……ish that we requested a PAC code……..oh well, lesson learned

Requesting a PAC does not stop and cancel the contract, it actually has to be used by another provider before that happens.

A pac code is for a number transfer. Given you stopped using the number, that's a good indication it was never ported to a new network.
