The "55B24LMF" is a lead acid battery - according to a websearch !

I really don't know what to do for the best … any further advice please

If its not AGM it may not charge in the right way, thus killing the battery again.

My car charges at 14.9V when low, non stop start are 14.5v.

Also my original battery is 9y and 5months old.

    Still going strong.

Here you go. It will not allow Flie type.

55B24LMF is a Japanese standard size code.
    240mm L x 130mm W x 230mm H, JIS L terminals.

Batteries in that size might be wet lead, EFB or AGM.

Just researched batteries for my ( not so high tech) car and found an Exide, supplied carriage free by Amazon was going to be my best choice at £54.

Having had stop start vehicles for almost 20 years (3 or 4 different marques) and replaced battreries on them, none of them over £100, what has changed that they now require a specialst expensive battery?

Dodgy charging systems in the interests of "emissions". If you look at the battery negative clamp it now has a sensor integral to it that reports the charge current (and another wire to positive to sense terminal voltage).

Instead of just running at a constant voltage the alternator is controlled by the ecu to give a constant tickle charge into the battery, so the alternator balances the electrical load, and the battery is used as a voltage regulator. The result is that if you use the car for short journeys, it will gradually run flat as it never puts back the self discharge (which is immense with all these computer doo-dahs, listening for keyless keyfobs and the lights continually coming on at random times like my Citroen)

Most cars now use EFB batteries, which are noticeably heavier than the cheap starter batteries, so likely have more lead in them, as they can stand being discharged below 50% many times.(A "normal" battery is only supposed to use the capacity between 80-100% for starting, regularly discharge it down below 50% and the plates start to fall apart)

AGM batteries are an alternative. Both these batteries have different charging characteristics to standard batteries and need a different tickle charge current. As the battery ages, the highly sophisticated algorithm (in your dreams, but no real reason why there couldn't be one it is only a few lines of code) increases the tickle charge current for some reason that I don't know, so if you fit a new battery without resetting the battery management system (coding the battery ££££££ for BMW etc, disconnecting the sensor for a while on lesser makes) it can reduce the lifespan of the new replacement.

Some alternators actually have a clutch to stop them rotating!

All this is to reduce emissions during the emission test drive cycle by an extra 0,001g or something- every little helps to sell cars…

The result for consumers is that if you don't do the standard 800 miles a month you need to top the battery up with an external charger or one morning it will be inexplicably flat, and the breakdown service try to sell you a new one. Jumpstart the car and it simply won't charge the battery back up unless you drive to John o'Groats & back

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Is it £189 fitted by Suzuki? Still expensive, but a lot less than £400.

Probably the easiest solution if it is. Modern cars can need Something resetting when you fit a new battery.

For a main dealer thats not a bad price. plus if you get any issues afterwards its their problem.
