Updates till late 2027
Download Google office, anti virus not needed and can also use Android apps.
Absolutely first class for low cost These are still about S/H for £150-250
Worth considering untill Google Aluminium comes along

Personally wouldn't bother with a ChromeBook. Perhaps they have improved, but for me they would be rather limiting. For example, I am currently using five different Browsers on a Windows device. Can you do that with a ChromeBook or are you still limited to just using Chrome?
If I'm searching for and booking flights, I prefer to have separate browsers, so cookies on a webpage cannot affect the other.
Secondly, as aforementioned, Google are working on a new Operating System and it isn't guaranteed that the Chromebook that you buy will be able to accept it.
I also wouldn't bother with a Celeron N100 CPU laptop, as even though it might suffice, it doesn't give you any headroom for the future.

A very positive review here
At £300 it seems a really good buy.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
When I last needed a new laptop I looked at the Which Magazine, the Guardian and Android Authority online guides for ideas of what to look for.
Then to actually buy I looked at the Amazon returned and reconditioned pages, at Argos listings, at this secondhand site Shop Top Quality Cheap Refurbished Laptops & Tablets - ITZOO – itzoo and in the window of a local computer shop I trusted to see what they had from trade ins.
Don't underestimate the convenience of another Windows laptop because they now offer a sync process that migrates all your settings and stored favourites etc. to your new machine at the touch of a few buttons which makes the setup process almost effortless.
I bought a secondhand Lenovo from Itzoo and am still very happy with it so good hunting.

Morgan computers are a long established supplier and have a good range of used/refurb laptops 0 often ex business machines so usually decent spec. I'm using an HP refurb now which was less than £300 and has been fine for a couple of years so far.
Can recommend https://www.electronicfirst.com/ for Microsoft office

2 possible alternatives to MS Office are Libre Office and Open Office.

Only use LibreOffice, OpenOffice is very old now with no updates except the occasional security fix, so 2 possible alternatives are LibreOffice, which is frequently updates and can do pretty much anything Microsoft Office can do, or Google Workspace, which is also very good. I've now shifted most of my worksheets from LibreOffice to Google.

There is also Softmaker Office, which is fully MS Office compatible, and does get updated regularly.
There are Free and Paid for versions, for general home use the Free is all you need.
I've been using it for years now on various laptops and have never had a problem with it.

One question, what is the problem with your existing laptop, that you require a new one, given your modest requirements for use?
