Getting mobile connection after phone theft
Comments

Don't think that it it would be a problem unless the phone number's use was deliberately restricted before the theft.
By "safe" do you mean using it for SMS OTP codes or some other usage?
If my phone account or voicemail were not protected with strong passwords/PIN then I might have issues.
As long as the number has been successfully swapped to a replacement SIM in my possession then personally I'd have no problem carrying on with the same number.
