The existing slates are more valuable then new cement based slate and really should be re used

Roof replacement isn’t just about new shingles. Proper underlayment, flashing, and ventilation make a huge difference in how long a roof actually lasts.

I ended up having a LOT of quotes. Rather late in the day I realised that there were a number of roofers who were part of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors "competent persons scheme," who could self-certify the work, avoiding the need to engage building control. Finally I found one of them who offered a competitive quote (<10K) and 10 year insurance backed guarantee.
Anyone coming across this thread in the future, ask Gemini /Chat GPT to find you local roofers who are part of the NFRC competent person's scheme, and create a ranked list in order of customer reviews and competitive pricing, in a table with contact details etc. If I had done this in the first instance it would have saved a lot of time.

Thanks for the update.
The real test of competence is to check out their recent work :-)
Are they planning to reuse the beautiful Welsh slate?
