Broadband Price Increases

BT - Trying to increase my monthly broadband bill by 16% - Based upon £4 fixed increase amount on broadband services and £3 increase on call services (previously £0) !!

"The flat fee increase is down to Martin Lewis wanting to simplify annual increases and remove the confusion of CPR and RPI being used - Easier for customers"

When challenged that a simplified CPI / RPI increase would be £1.50 and not £4 I was told the increase is flat across all broadband BT contracts !!

HOW CAN CONSUMERS CHALLENGE THIS ?? A case of greedy corporates !!

    Yup, blame Martin Lewis because apparently fixed increases are so much better now the RPI is under 4%….

    It’s way too late to complain about this completely predictable outcome, the unintended consequence was always going to be that a flat fee that would favour the higher spend customer at the expense of the low spend ones , £4 a year increase obviously a bigger % hit to those paying £28 for 40/80Mb compared to £60 for 1.6Gb or higher, but this has been in place quite some time , and TBH , it’s nonsense to start an argument that on reflection the CPI+*% formula was better (the reasons why that was pilloried haven’t changed ) ….those that say there shouldn’t be any in term increases may have a point but is a different argument, and no doubt should some well meaning consumer champion lobby to get that banned , the consequence of that will be a higher price from the start rather than a tiered increase over time .

    If your contract specifies a cpi/rpi increase each year, then that is what you should get. If BT have made a material change to the contract, you may well be able to leave for another supplier.

    These were outlawed over a year ago …no one can use inflation + % anymore, the increase has to be in the contract document stating the increase in ££’s and pence , you clearly haven’t been paying attention

    Who will increase the rate every April at a fixed rate on going.

    I am out of contract and they offering a new contract at slightly less than what I am paying at the minute but it would increase in April by £4 followed by another £4 in the following April would be mad to enter new contract (Not BT)

    Providers exist that do not include automatic rises.

    But you will almost always pay more from the outset.

    EE increasing my mobile tariff by £2.50. I currently pay £7.50 so that's 33% increase!!

    Last time I looked, Sky still didn't do automatic rises. Instead, every year they tell you what the rise will be, and you have the choice of accepting it or taking your business elsewhere.

    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
