I am trying to retrieve funds from my recently deceased mother's bank accounts. My problem is I have no photo i.d. (passport/drivers licence). has anyone else had this issue, and how did they resolve it?

You'd probably need to present yourself in branch and discuss it with the bank directly? Given the sensitivities they will probably be able to find alternative ways of verification that you have a right to access her money e.g. certified copies of POA, wills, even photographs etc.

In the meantime is it not worth getting ID so you have it for future purposes?

Are you acting in the capacity as an executor of your mother's estate, or in some other way?

What have the bank(s) said when you asked ? Each bank will vary with what is acceptable and usually have a list of acceptable non photo id.

Depending on the amounts in the account(s), and that you are entitled (solely) to apply to withdraw the funds - then consider applying for a provisional driving licence.

If you bank at the same bank as your late mum they may not need additional ID.

Based on previous threads it seems the OP has a driving licence just not a photo one.

Reading your other thread, you have been very unfortunate in having both your mother and mother-in-law pass away in a short space of time, very best of luck with the identity issue going forward.

It's very common you have to obtain as many government letters, birth certificates, medical card, proof of address, council tax, or anything that was issued after passing away. Visit your local Citizen Advice first. Depending on amounts, you may need to go through a solicitor. Did they ever have a bus pass or old passport? Sorry for your loss.

The following assumes that you have reached out to your Mum's bank and haven't received much if any help…

If you already have a bank account or savings account, pay them a visit, tell them your problem, and ask them could they help you at all.

    For example:

"Hi, I've got a problem. My Mum died recently, and I need to be able to prove my ID to her bank in order to retrieve the funds there. The problem is that bank X need photo ID, I don't have a passport, and I can't afford to pay £20 to convert my paper drivers licence to photo id, and have to pay to renew it every 10 years. Can you help me? Maybe you could provide something with my name and address on to help prove who I am?"

Note that while it's not your bank's problem, they are in a position to vouch for who you are, and are an organisation bound by the same "know your customer" rules.

Make sure to arm yourself with your drivers licence, and some other additional recent proof of address from another source beforehand.

If you were the person who registered your Mum's death, the fact that your name is on the death certificate as "informant" also carries some weight.

I hope you manage to get this sorted quickly and with the minimum of stress.
