Faulty freezer 16 months old
We had a kitchen extension built last year and all new appliances supplied by the company that did all the work.
Yesterday we discovered our fridge freezer had stopped working, luckily everything was just softening, so hadn’t long failed.
What are our rights regarding repair/replacement?

Your consumer rights are with the builder from whom you purchased the fridge.
You might also have redress via the warranty offered by the manufacturer.

If it can be demonstrated that the goods were faulty at the point of sale (even if latent) then the company you bought them from is required to repair or replace - as it's more than six months since purchase they may ask you to prove that the current fault is, for example, a manufacturing flaw, rather than something environmental, which would need you to get an independent technician to inspect it in order to document a finding like that.

👍 And the socket.

As this is over 6 months old. They need a 3rd party report.

The kitchen was built "last year" so that might not yet be 6 months? Though, that does not align with the title "16 months old". No part of "last year" is yet 16 months.
The OP may find a warranty solution suitable and easier?

Does the fridge light come on when the door is opened?
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0
