Admiral - we're sending some money your way?
I was wondering if anyone has received a similar letter as am confused! (Waiting for a call back from Admiral hopefully today)
I receieved a letter today relating to a claim around 4 years ago where my car was written off as a total loss and I received compensation.
It hasn't asked for any bank details or anything like that. It says that after reviewing past total loss claims (which i know is something that was news last year that insurance companies were doing this) I am owed an extra settlement amount + 8% interest.
The email address and phone number on the letter isn't advertised on their site but the domain looks legit? The claim reference number is correct and the letter looks real but just unsure if this is some elaborate (and very well done) scam/dodgy thing? Or is it the real deal?? Any advice/anyone got anything simmilar?

What scam would involve a company paying you money?

Is the letter seeking any kind of information or response?
If not, why didn't they just send a cheque?
Did you call them on the number in the letter or on a number from their website?
It's probably legit since they have the actual claim reference from your case.

So you know it's something that insurers were looking at, you had a car wriiten off that covers the issue and you know you were insured by Admiiral. So what exactly screams 'scam' to you?

So it says that they will get in contact with me to 'check my details' before sending any payment - this is what I am wary of as payments can be taken with sort codes and account numbers!
Also I've compared the letter to other letters i've received from Admiral and it does look different. Am hoping it is legitimate but am wary of contacting the number in the letter as i'd like to contact Admiral directly themselves to verify - and they haven't been able to do this as of yet.

Only direct debits can be taken with sort code and account numbers and any illegitimate ones you havent been notified of can be recalled almost straight away.
If worried set up a 2nd account (surely everyone has a 2nd account just in case, right?) that has a zero balance and give them those.

it would make sense for them to check your details before making payment, especially after 4 years. There is no harm providing your bank sort code and account number, after all, that information is freely available whenever you give someone a cheque.

Knowing insurance companies and the way they work it will more than likely be a cheque.

Cheques cost far more than sending a banking payment..👍

You also need to keep track of whether the cheque has been banked, whereas a BACS payment is gone immediately.

The FCA has taken issue with a number of insurers and how they calculated the value of vehicles that were total lossed in the past. They have given explicit instruction to them that they need to review their historic settlements and make corrections where they undervalued the vehicle.
The exact list of insurers isnt public, as far as I know, but DL was certainly one of them. Wouldnt be surprised if Admiral was
