Ansell downlighters replacement

Having moved into a house with 13 of these downlighters in kitchen ceiling, I’m unsure what I need to replace, being completely unfamiliar with such things, I presumed it was just a bulb change (7 of the 13 no longer work, although only 7 years old max).
After research it seems the whole sealed unit needs to be replaced but I’m unsure if similar ones on selling sites are suitable, surely I don’t need the transformer bit that it slots into aswell, help! Thanks

    90mm dia? 73mm hole?

If you Google Ansell and the part number AORBLED/WW, you'll hopefully find them, and at a not-unreasonable price.

Disappointing that LED type are failing so quickly, tho'.

Does it mention light 'temperature' or colour? Most appear to be 4k or 'cool', but not super-cold. Are they quite bright white?

Ansell lighting link in Warrington so matching the postcode on the luminaire

Lighting Manufacturers UK | Bespoke Solutions

may be worth asking why these have failed so early (assuming that connecting the failed ones into a good power connection doesn't revive indicating a wiring/connection issue). Quoting model and batch number. (No harm in asking, even if nothing comes of it).

    One example seller

    Ansell AORBLED/WW Downlight LED 7.6W W/W

WW = Warm White = 3000 Kelvin in this case (2700K is old fashioned incandescent filament lamps). So fairly yellow light.

  • the same type appear discontinued at every search, only thing to do would appear to be to change them all, my partner not keen to touch electrics so it’ll have to be an electrician job, very annoying after such a short time :(

  • All discontinued it would seem. Frustrating when so many have failed

Ah, the WW is WarmWhite, and I doubt you'd want to go colder, even tho' 4k isn't that harsh. And, yes, you'd need to replace them all to match :-(

Very poor quality. I wonder if it's the transformers or the LEDs themselves that fail? I'd love to open one up…

Hmm, looks like they were issued with a 5 year - or seven if registered - warranty. Worth a word with Ansell citing the CRA 2015? Mind you, if the WW ones no longer exist…

OK same Tradesparky website lists current Ansell fitting which may well use the same plug/socket connectors: Ask them, or the makers Ansell for a suitable replacement model? (Send your pics to TradeSparky, perhaps)

A pack of 10 are £69 + delivery and have selectable Colour Temperature during installation. (May be cheaper from other resellers). Ansell APRIP/1/MP1 Prism Pro Fire Rated Downlight Multipack

Mind if you need the connectors changing professionally you may think twice about using the same luminaire maker!

We have nine Ansell downlighters in our kitchen fitted six years ago. One failed and was replaced in year 1, otherwise all OK.

  • Are they the same as mine? Where did you get a replacement? Thanks

unfortunately those new ones don’t fit the old connectors. So….. looks like no choice but to completely change them all. I went to Screwfix and CEF today, the Luceco FType Mk2 look a reasonable replacement, was hoping for a slightly larger bezel to hide a bit of ceiling damage. CEF suggested GU10 ones as I’d said it would great to just change a bulb.

Here’s the dilemma now… the GU10s are about £25 dearer than the integrated units and I’ve now read that to replace with them would mean removing transformer etc which is getting more electrical that we are comfortable with DIYing so would need an electrician, I think?

Replacing with new integrated ones from Screwfix. Looking at the ceiling there are 2 cables into the old Ansell connector box, which I’ve read means a looping system, I’m presuming all the other lights will the same, so would have to rewire 6 wires in the new units… potential for errors, I can see my partner saying he’s not comfortable doing this but is it that difficult?

Also would like to have the switches converted to a dimmer, again partner thinks electrician job.

    Any advice very welcome.
