Oops typo, Once you have registered you have to cross through the stream of frustrated travellers coming in. The one member of staff helping is trying to direct people into queues and help people enter their details!

Couple of weeks ago I landed , None of the electronic machines were working. I was lucky as a) my flight was ahead of 2 others b) I was fairly close to the front of the queue, so I only waited 45 mins. After about 20 mins, the queue was so big you could not see the end, and was wrapping around the building outside!!

Hello, We actually flew into Tenerife [TFS] airport at the end of January for a week arriving on a BA flight from Heathrow. The new system was already in operation, requiring photos and fingerprints. We got through all the checks in less than 20 minutes. It really does depend though on when your flight arrives at Tenerife, in that if you arrive at a time when there are a load of other flights from the UK, it is envitable there might be queues due to the amount of UK passports holders arriving at the same time [for info our arrival time was about 3PM]

There were no massive queues on departure either, as everyone goes through the same initial security checks and then after that the countries not in the EU all depart from gates beyond passport control checks. It was just a quick scan of the passport on the machine and then the passport was stamped, probably no longer than 5 minutes at passport control, although the initial queue to have your bags/belongings scanned took about 20-25 minutes.

Having read the article it is a bit clickbaity. Sad that the passenger died, but it was from natural causes after about 20 minutes in a queue. This would not have been a story at all had there not been a flurry of reports of people queuing for hours …
