EES registration Tenerife
Relatives landed TFS earlier today - facial scan only at biometric registration procedure.
Anybody else experience this recently ?
Technical issues at Tenerife airport ?

More than likely the huge queues ive seen on social media this week at points has meant they have dialled down the checks a bit.

They only did facial in Lanzarote last December. We were told they would be implementing finger prints some time this year.

From what I've read on various TripAdvisor Forums, many airports abandon the EES system when they are very busy, and revert to hand stamping. What will happen after April, when according to EU rules the use of EES will be mandatory for all airports, remains to be seen.

Relatives returning from Tenerife tonight - their experiences will be interesting.
Apparently a shambles same time departures last Sunday.

According to the EU spokesman quoted by the BBC, transitional measures will still be possible at busy times throughout the summer:
Markus Lammert, European Commission Spokesperson for Internal Affairs, says 23m entries and exits have already been registered under EES, and there have been 12,000 refusals of entry.
He insisted the system has operated "largely without issues", but said member states would continue to work on improvements.
From 10 April, EES is meant to be in use at every border point, for every eligible passenger.
However, countries can partially suspend EES operations where necessary over the summer, until September.
Jankovec said this would be necessary to cope if "the situation becomes unsustainable at border control".

On the way in at TFS there is huge potential for long queues especially if several aircaft arrive close together. First stop for UK passport holders is the EES machine where they ask a few easy questions, scan face, passport and fingers. Next, cross the stream heading for stage one and scan face and passport. Finally we all line up again for a human to stamp passports.
Hopefully this will improve as more people are registered and can skip stage one, and again when the system goes fully live and passport stamps are no longer needed.
On the way home I have seen long queues to scan and stamp reported, the best advice is to arrive in plenty of time, watch the departure boards and head for the departure zone as soon as the letter ( Usually A or C) is displayed. you can wait for the gate number to be added on the other side where there are food and drink shops and some seating.
For the record it went smoothly with only about a 20 minute wait arriving and no issue coming home at the end of January.
