would appreciate some advice.

Bought a 2nd hand car.

Light has come on after 2 months, need diagnostics.

I have a platinum warranty, they don’t take responsibility for initial diagnostics but will refund it if fault is covered.

Retailer says they will repair but initial diagnostics is down to me.

is this correct within the initial 6 months under consumer rights 2015

I have done some checking and come up with contradictory info, would appreciate any links I can send to the retailer.

They have generally been pretty good.

thanks in advance

    Which light?

Apart from the light being on, are there any other symptoms and/or can you identify a fault?

    Make/model/age/mileage/price of car?

    How old is the car?

    What make, model?

    How many miles when purchased?

    What cost for the car?

    Which light has come on?

It's normally the case that you pay for diagnostics and it's refunded if fault is covered by warranty.

Normally these add on warrantys are a waste of money mind you.

..yes it is normal to have to pay for the diagnostics, then if a warranty fault is found the diagnostic cost would be refunded. (Happened to me on a brand new car…)

    .."It's everybody's fault but mine...."

    it’s the emissions light.

No symptoms but happened when I was stuck in traffic.

I’ve updated the post as my query relates to consumer right act 2015

the warranty was free and I’m aware they have lots of caveats.

I was asking about under the consumer rights act 2015 in the first 6 months where “repair” is down to them

UPDATE : just put 5L of ad blue in (to rule this out before paying for diagnostics) and the light has gone OFF.

There was no ad blue warning and I’ve scrolled through the info and there is no ad blu range on it.

I’d still be interested in the answer to the query about consumer rights if anyone knows for sure.

AI says the trader is responsible for the repair including diagnostics (unless they prove it’s my fault which I know it’s not).

This maybe a case of AI being wrong??

Thank you. The reason I asked for all the detail is because it is not defined in law so precisely. The car has to be fit for purpose, free of minor defects, etc (you can look up all the details on the internet if needs be) but what is also taken into consideration is the age/mileage/price etc.

Just contact the dealer and ask them to look at it.

consumer rights act says during the first 6 months they have to repair the fault (ombudsman says this).

I understand there’s wear and tear so i wouldn’t expect them to replace a worn tyre.

The issue I’m trying to find out about is diagnostics which I would have thought might have come up before. I imagine it could be hundreds from a dealer.
