does anyone know if edf charge a exit fee if you change tariffs but stay with edf, i know sp allowed me years ago
my current deal is no exit fee, with the new 1 there is a fee, just wondering if i can change if a better offer comes along
also the new offer is shown £92 p/m with actual kw quote, but as i'm currently in credit edf have just lately reduced my payments to £73 p/m which currently lowering the credit in the account but still £180 in current credit, if i change will edf increase my payments or leave it the way it is now as they did set it , i do give them a monthly reading
UPDATE, when i go to "switch today" its gone i get this "
Plan is no longer available
Sorry, something’s changed so this plan is no longer available to switch to. Select another plan to continue.

EDF have always charged exit fee if change from tariff with exit fee to any other EDF tariff, clue is to look at current EDF fixes and see if any mention of changing to another EDF tariff without charge.

You seem to be totally out of luck today. don't you? Can I ask at what stage you got to before you were told this tariff is no longer available?
It's still on the uSwitch site, I tried 'switch today', that's ok, I got the address & meter numbers confirmed, that's ok. I'm now on personal details and afraid to go any further as I do not intend to go ahead.
Regarding early exit fees, yes they apply even for a tariff transfer (see above post).. But you may be able to earn yourself a goodwill gesture if you speak to them and say you'll ditch & switch supplier if they won't waive the early exit fees. Sometimes works. EDF have even been known to contact you after a switch away to 'bribe' you in returning to them.
Regarding level of DD, I think it depends. Sometimes they will keep it unchanged, sometimes they go with what was quoted. You can change the DD value online, but unlike Octopus, EDF seem to impose online a limit to how much it can be reduced … sometimes only a matter of pennies. But contact them by phone or email, and they usually revert any change without quibble (assuming you are in credit as you said you were, and they have recent meter readings)

I also got that error message when trying to sign up via confused.com - instead I found that I had an old Uswitch account, and so made the switch using Uswitch which seems to have worked.

Hmm… I've changed to this tariff (from another EDF tariff) but am now not so sure if it was such a wise choice, and am thinking about whether I should revert back (under the 14 day 'cooling off' rule).
My old tariff was a fix due to expire at the end of June (with no exit fees) - here are the rates side by side (the "Current Plan" shown being my old plan):The uSwitch comparison did show an annual saving for changing tariff, but of course that was comparing this new tariff against four and a half months of my old fix (up to its expiry at the end of June) and then seven and a half months of being on the standard variable tariff (SVT) - whilst in reality I'd switch to a new fix and would never go on the SVT.
So really it's a case of crystal ball gazing as to whether there'll be better fixes come the summer, or if this new tariff is as good as it'll get and so is worth paying the substantially increased daily standing charges for the next four and a half months in exchange for the cheaper unit rate on gas…
Plus there's the whole issue of how the post-April 1st '£150 a year' cut (for an average bill) will work out in practice.0 -
It depends on your usage.
As I indicated in my post advising of the availability of this tariff:
"Competitive electric and low gas price. SCs are up there with the rest though"
That means those with above average usage and heavy consumption of gas are likely to see the biggest benefit.
As your tariff change was only a tariff transfer and not a switch of supplier, the 14 day rule may not apply.
Probably best to speak directly to EDF nicely if you are now getting cold feet.
You will then, of course, be hoping that something as good or better will be available in 4.5 months time.
In regards the changes suppliers will be making in April due to the budget, everyone is expected to be a winner (with the possible exception of customers of Tulo Energy who have still yet to declare) as your link explains.

Thanks @gpman - and to be clear there's no implied criticism of you, your earlier post made things very clear!
Re the 14 day 'cooling off' period - the emails I've had from EDF suggest it does apply, but I think the more pertinent question is whether they'd revert me back to my old fix. (I think they might, but I'm not sure if they're actually under any obligation to do so - will report back if I try this.)Re the alternatives - one possibility that seems more attractive the more I look at it is an electricity time-of-use tariff such as EDF's FreePhase trial tariff. But I don't currently have a smart meter, and getting one fitted any time soon might be easier said than done!

Under normal circumstances, if you invoke the cooling off clause. you can return to the former supplier & tariff you were previously on. (See SLC 14A.17.b and SLC 14A.18)
So if EDF agree that cooling off applies to your tariff transfer too, then I see no reason they should not allow you to return to that previous tariff.
(EDF can charge you the new tariff for the period you are supplied on that tariff)
