Virgin Media more than doubling charge, and no other providers available

My deal with Virgin Media broadband ends in 4 weeks, at which point they are planning to more than double my monthly charge (from £30 to £73). I have shopped around for an alternative provider, but there are no other companies offering a broadband service to my address (either fibre, FTTC or ADSL). I don't live in the middle of nowhere - I'm in Greater London.

What options do I have in the face of this monopoly?

    Starlink is pretty pricey.

5G is interesting, although Vodafone is the only network with a decent signal at my home. I'm also not sure if I would be able to access my home servers (VPN, Home Automation, etc) with a 5G connection?

  • Starlink is currently £35 a Month for the basic package.

But there might be a high volume of users in central London so might be slow

    Have you tried hyperopic?

    Full fibre but cheap deals

The Starlink website is showing a monthly charge of £75 for my address, Hyperoptic don't provide any coverage :0(

Does seem to bit of a bait and switch, £35pm mentioned on the front page but turns out to be £75 in reality.

  • Have you logged in to your online Virgin Media account and looked if there's an offer for signing up for another 24 months?

When my deal was ending there were a couple of options in my online account, one slightly slower for slightly less than I had been paying, and one for the same speed for slightly more, but still a lot less than the out of contract price that I would have gone on to by doing nothing.

You'll get the best price by giving 30 days notice to quit, and then hopefully getting a call back 24-48 hours later - this has worked for me multiple times. But if there are no other options acceptable to you then it's a bit of a bluff, so it depends how happy you are doing that.
