Help: Massive Energy Usage

Sorry, didn't think it through. They are not electric showers - as you say, that would be crazy.

It's worth understanding those "typical" values before giving too much weight to them. The middle 2,700 is the median, meaning 50% of households use more, and 50% use less. The higher 4,100 is at the 3/4 mark (whatever that'that's called) meaning 25% of households use more. And as noted, those all exclude EV charging.

Electric showers in a house with gas hot water are quite frankly bonkers from a cost point of view.
Bit of an aside, but it's not that "bonkers" actually. Having changed from electric shower to a gas powered one(from a combi boiler), I did a cost comparison a few years ago and the difference was about 5p in favour of gas. The electric shower used 0.8kWh and gas 2.3kWh. The big difference in energy required can be put down to the electric shower only heating the water used, and doing so instantaneously. The gas powered one has to warm up the pipework the water is fed through before it reaches the shower. In my case, about 30 seconds before you feel the hot water. So you're using slightly more water too, which I didn't include in the cost. Over a year, 5p per shower will add up, but not only do we save a little bit of money with gas, it's a nicer "rainfall" shower too!

You need to look at your daily usage chart in kWh. You can see patterns there and understand if it's a one off spike at 7am when everyone is taking showers, kids running electric rads without caring with open windows.
also what's your tarriff, if you're on some smart one that has a high price 16-19 or E7 with high day rate then it will all add up.
without details is a guessing game - but so far I bet on "not average" use compared to typical household
have a read through this thread:
4 bed house, same usage as yours, EVs, has gas .. - not uncommon

Not bonkers from a comfort point of view - If you have an electric shower then you've also got a shower you can use if your boiler breaks down!

That's what the immersion heater is for.

We;re similar to you but have 1 son half the time, and the other full-time. He's a nightmare for leaving everything on 24/7 (lights, PC). We also do a lot of cooking with electric oven, air fryer and induction hob. But even then, our electric bill for December was £170 electric and £155 Gas. In KWh terms it's 573 (elec) and 2229 (Gas). That's with Gas heating on most of the time.
We're on 28.16p + 54p/day for electric and 6.15p + 33p/day Gas. Have a look at the numbers and see how that compares to yours if it helps

One question I'm not sure has yet been asked - have you checked that the figure on the actual meter itself matches what is shown on the bill? Going forward it would be good practice to get into the habit of double checking this and taking a record of the reading ideally monthly but at least quarterly - this can come in extremely handy if you should ever have a meter failure!

• How have you ascertained your gas consumption; have you used two actual readings 12 months apart and done the sums, or are you only using the Estimated Annual Consumption?
• Make sure your supplier doesn't think you still have an imperial meter measuring in hundreds of cubic feet. Of course, it shouldn't happen with smart meters but sometimes it does. If their calculation shows a figure of 2.83 you're being overcharged. Check using
• Similarly, make sure your supplier hasn't assumed that you still have the old meter but it's 'gone round the clock' and added a huge amount.
