Full sovereigns vs Half-sovereigns for long term investing?

Yes. The comment about buying on ebay was directed at @EasyToAssemble01

Seems you chose the wrong gold ETC given your comment about 'virtual vaults'. After some research I chose Royal Mint sustainable gold ( RMAP and RMAU).
Uniquely amongst all gold ETCs Royal Mints version permits a swap into bars or coins ( subject to handling charges) - see below
From the security perspective this is my preference to invest in gold, whilst providing a physical option should I have a hankering to hold the stuff in future.

I just sold a quantity of full & half sovereigns at the beginning of this month. The half sovs achieved half the price of the full sovs. So, it doesn't matter what you choose.

Have you considered gold-pressed latinum instead?

buying on eBay is fine as long as it’s local collection and you can inspect them before payment, otherwise no.
If you’re buying for just bullion then don’t buy new, a few dealers sell used/traded in at lower value .
A safe deposit box can be had for £220 a year, for coins and passports, legal documents etc.
What is the fees( buying/platform) cost for a gold etf.
imo Platinum is the sleeping Giant. Out of stock in most dealersA thankyou is payment enough .0 -
”What is the fees( buying/platform) cost for a gold etf.” If you use the right broker e.g., Trading212, IG Invest it’s zero commission and zero account fees. Scottish Widows (formerly iWeb) would be £5 per trade and zero ongoing account fees.

I take it ETFs would be subject to CGT as opposed to UK coins that are not.

If you don’t own them in an Isa or a Sipp, correct.
It’s 1837 and later UK coins that are CGT exempt. Foreign coins aren’t exempt.

Yes, anything not via an authorised reputable dealer is off limits for me. I know this incurs a premium, but that's the price we pay for ensuring authenticity. I don't have the experience or patience to search out gold bargains (which may be rarer now everyone knows the price of everything).

But, I will have access to coins. I do have a metals CFD fund, but want a small amount of coins I can physically own.
