    If your property has a mortgage..it would need to be a regulated buy to rent mortgage...lenders do not like landlords renting to family members. Could also be a problem claiming housing benefit

    Thanks, everyone. I had a feeling it would open up a can of worms. I think I'm just going to have to suggest to keep trying Home Swapper and keep applying to the other councils!

    surely the sensible thing to do would be to take a serious look at the finances and work out just why she can’t manage. It’s difficult to believe that costs in London are the crux of the problem. Housing costs are sky high but OP says her rent is subsidised so it does not seem to be the housing costs that are the problem in themselves. Hence the suggestion earlier in this thread of seeking help on the debt-free wannabe board.
