Benefits and receiving inheritance
Hi all,
Sadly my father-in-law passed away and my wife and her brother are sorting the home and the finances etc…
My brother in law is a stay at home dad with 5 kids and in recite of full benefits such as housing benefit, universal credit etc etc… Sadly the mother is nowhere to be seen… in the coming months he will receive a substantial amount… But he is now worried as anything over £6000 his benefits will be affected and anything over £16000 and they will be stopped… Well he will easily get over the £16,000…
He has expressed he will have to go back to some sort of employment, but with a family of 5 and 2x very young children 1x 5 year old and 1 x 8 year old… He has expressed this will be hard to get full time employment as he will need to find employment between the hours of 0930hrs and 1500hrs to fit in with school hours…
In his worry he asked for his sister to inherit all the money and then draw out the thousand upon thousand of pounds so he can have it cash… Now this is crazy to say the least as her withdrawing in the range of £30,000… This of course screams fraud… And the DWP would be loving that investigation…
Anyone else found themselves in a position like this or heard… Is this a regular thing???
Any information would be amazing…
Thank you…

And for the record of course my wife is declining to do this for him due to the consequences and implications that could occur…

He could live off the money and then reclaim benefits once it is gone. Why would he have to get a job?

Well that’s what we said… But he wishes to do more with the funds… Exactly what we don’t know…
He asked about loop hole but I said soon as the funds go into his account he needs to declare with the DWP… Or they will catch him through the search’s of banks account, Probate Rota etc etc…

Does he have a mortgage or any unsecured debts?

If he wants to do something else with the money then yes he would need to get a job.

@Keep_pedalling he doesn’t… Otherwise he could have used that… And then benefits would not be affected…

No loophole…. and we cannot advise on committing crime which is obviously his intention

To commit benefit fraud or not?
That is the question.
