EE broadband potential switch advice

Our broadband plan is "ee fibre plus broadband with landline", we just received notice that they were going to increase prices by £4 a month to £48 a month. I have just done a speedtest we get 70 Mbps Up and 20 down.

We have taken a look at other EE alternatives and the 66-73Mbps Core package at £29 looks like it would be good for us, we dont use a home phone, but the router plugs into the telephone line box on the wall. This is a 'part fibre' service

If I switch to a different EE package do I need to have a package that comes with a phone service?

I dont want to have an engineer come into the house and have install new cables and I dont want any broadband down time as we work from home, Id like any switch to be seamless, hence Im not looking at other providers at this point. Our service with EE is great, but its starting to get a little too expensive.

The new EE product you are looking at is the same as what you have without the phone , all ‘new’ phone connectivity is through a router , on FTTC the router connects to the telephone line socket on the wall .

£48 is expensive for broadband and phone unless you are paying for Unlimited Calls , and if you pay for that (typically £10-£18) and don’t make any calls , clearly that’s a waste of money, if thst £48 is for broadband and PAYG calls it’s not a good price .

It should be easy enough to drop the phone , a target price for 80/20 broadband ( that’s what you already have ) is around £30 although that will go up £4 in March and also the following March assuming you take a 24 month deal.

You shouldn’t need an engineer visit or any downtime, unless FTTP is now available in which case if you renew (not just with EE but anyone ) would need an engineer install .

Taking out a new EE, BT contract from 1 March onwards usually avoids same year price increase.
