  • Severn Trent Water have said their policy is to build up credit and they want me to pay almost double the amount of my actual bill.

They mentioned various schemes. However I am not eligible because I am a single person household and also I don't require extra water usage because of my disability.

I have asked to lower my direct debit and I am told that it isn't their policy. Gas and electricity companies allow you to alter your direct debit.

They want me to pay by a water card if I want to pay less money. I find this absolutely appalling and discriminatory because I have money to pay my water bill but I don't want to pay almost double my monthly usage. Despite not being in arrears they have also tried to direct me towards 'The Big Difference', their social tariff scheme and 'WaterSure' both of which would result as flags with credit reference agencies and for which I am  not actually eligible

I am on a water meter and I thought I would pay for my usage only. My usage is consistently £30.00 per month  but Severn Trent insist that I cannot lower my direct debit from almost £60.00 per  month as it is their policy to force customers to build up credit through monthly  over-payments. This obviously  builds their profits through interest payments on the account excesses they are forcing their customers to accrue. If this is legal it's an absolute disgrace.

I don't know quite what is going on here. I've just had my 6 monthly statement - mu usage has dropped a little and my DD has gone down. (edit) up 25p/month - paying £42

I pay by a fixed monthly DD . My annual consumption is 80 m3

Do you pay on receipt of bill ? What's your annual consumption ?

    PS I'm also with ST

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
