Gold and Vanguard S&S ISA?

Anyone know why I can't get any gold facing investment into my Vanguard S&S ISA? My HL SIP allows it but not the ISA it seems.

Vanguard only offers Vanguard products. If Vanguard don't have a gold fund, you won't find a gold fund on Vanguard's list.

You could transfer your Vanguard S&S ISA to a provider who allows investments from a range of fund houses. Vanguard does not consider that there is an investment case for gold exposure.

Its a very obvious answer and you will probably kick yourself when you realise it.

Vanguard is not a whole of market platform (known as restricted - they don't even offer the full Vanguard range).    HL is a whole of market platform.

Just to be clear, you presumably mean that "My HL SIP allows it but not the Vanguard ISA it seems" rather than "My HL SIP allows it but not the HL ISA it seems"?

As above, you can buy gold-based investments throughout HL, so even if you don't want to shift your existing Vanguard ISA, there's nothing (other than annual contribution allowances perhaps) stopping you from opening an ISA with HL too (or most other platforms for that matter)....

Thanks for your replies. For clarification the Vanguard ISA is with Vanguard and invests in VLS60, VLS100 and others I was wondering why I couldn't get any Gold into it, thanks for the explanations, I hadn't fully appreciated it was restricted to Vanguard, it's only recently hat I've been looking further afield.

The SIP is with HL I'll use that for the Gold.

    Thanks again.

Providers/platforms are either restricted or whole of market.     No surprise but whole of market is best as it allows you to select from 30k plus investments.      Ironically, you can obtain a greater range of Vanguard investments on a whole of market platform than you can on Vanguard's restricted platform.

Or just open an ISA somewhere other than Vanguard? You can have multiple ISAs open, just keep track of your overall contributions in a given year and keep that below 20k.

Sometimes there are offers if you open a new ISA, usually with a minimum amount.

A couple of years I opened one with AJ Bell with £5K I think, and got a £150 Amazon voucher .
