Or even trying (say) Skys website and seeing what speeds are available after inputting the address.Ayr_Rage said:Time to get on the likes of uswitch and see what products are available from other ISPs.0 -
If a certain level of broadband (speed, service level, availability, resilience, backup) is required by your employer in order for you to do your job then your employer should be procuring the (business level) supply and paying for it.Suzycoll said:

Finally , £29 may be a fantastic price that can’t be maintained if you are on multi Gb speed broadband with TV that includes sport , movies etc , or may be a poor or average price for mid speed broadband only , and £62 an outrageous price if ordinary broadband is all you get from Virgin , so without knowing what products you get from Virgin for your £29 now and will pay £62 for in March it’s not really possible to say if what you want is reasonable.
The main reason I used Virgin is I WFH & need broadband that will support the IT used for work.
I have had Talk talk & EE but it was not enough to WFH & kept on cutting out. Coverage in my area is patchy & most neighbours use Virgin due to this
How do you mean "coverage is patchy in your area"? That term usually applies to a mobile signal, not BB.
Switching is as easy as posting on here, presuming you have a fast enough available service (do you have full fibre there?) your easiest option is simply to switch. VM will come back with a better offer but if you've already initiated a switch I'd let it go through.
I'm not technical at all . I guess I meant the speeds (with other providers) were not enough to do my job ( kept on crashing). That is what my IT dept said anyway.
This is why I'm dubious about switching. Yes I am on fibre at the minute. Are you saying if I choose a provider with fibre I won't have this problem?
As I said I'm not up to all the malarkey atm1 -
Use the address checker at https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome (just house number and postcode) and post the image on here (removing any personal information). You should have something similar to the following:-Suzycoll said:

I am also with Virgin and have been for about 12 years. My current broadband only M125 ends at the end of this month. I’ve been paying £23.66. If I had done nothing it would have gone to just over £50. Renewal deals online showed the cheapest was about £43. Rang up and the first guy I spoke to couldn’t get it below £40. Then moved over to retentions and that chap got it to £30 (going up by £4 in April 2026 and a further £4 in April 2027). I was happy with £6 more a month (then £10, then £14), so accepted that 24 month deal. It was an hour on the phone, but it saved me ~£240 over two years, which I don’t think is bad.I would ring the, be clear but polite and state that you cannot and will not pay more than you’re paying now. It won’t be quite as cheap, but it won’t be double. And you could go elsewhere if you have to.1

Don’t know where you live but we also have 1gb with community fibre (long story) and that’s been very good, and you can get for under £30 a month. It’s been good and v reliable:eek::eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20171

As suggested, just because the alternatives in the past couldn’t match Virgin speed (they were never more reliable or work friendly but in some places were the only option for speed ) but the chances are that FTTP or decent FTTC will be available on Openreach or Alternative Networks , so it’s very unlikely that Virgin are still the only choice as far as speeds a are concerned.
If all you get is a mid speed broadband for £29 (an average , certainly not a good price ) then £60+ is outrageous, but ultimately if you will only consider Virgin , then you will pay the price they want you to pay which may be poor in comparison, but don’t think they are the only choice for speed , check using the link provided and post the results, chances are there are many better value choices available away from Virgin .

Well......that's another story I don't really want to say on here 😏!flaneurs_lobster said:
