I noticed that Fuse are charging about 16p for their EV tariff, which is about double the Octopus rates. ,,,
But their day rate affective for the other 19/24 of the day is only charged at about 24p compared to about 32p charged by Octopus.

You need to look at the whole picture!

You fill you house batteries on the overnight rate, so the day rate doesn't really matter.
That is only true if your battery capacity is enough to get you through until the overnight rate again, if not then as stated, you need to look at the whole picture...

That’s surely part of the original battery sizing / quote process. I know it was when I got mine.
The 'correct' answer isn't always going to be to have enough stored to get through the day...
Enough capacity to store excess solar PV could be the right answer for example.
With SEG rates as they are right now with some suppliers, and EV tariffs then there is an argument for exporting all production and increasing the battery capacity to cover the home load, but that is highly tariff dependent and perhaps an unwise basis for a long term investment where the cost of battery capacity continues to fall...
Enough capacity to store excess solar simply won’t work in the winter months, plus if you size it on summer’s production you’ll have way more than you likely need.
... and if you size on winter import needs that will be wrong for about 8 or 9 months of the year as well...
It is all totally dependent upon the size of your array, the amount of energy you use and how deep your pockets are.
Sometimes the right answer for you will not be about cost, but about comfort and simplicity, but everyone is different...

  • that's concerning. I've only recently moved across to Fuse and will be contracted with them until well into next year…

I wholeheartedly agree with the OPs sentiment that Fuse energy are a load of Cr*p. I have multiple properties with them and have only recently noticed that when these properties were sold and the exact dates were supplied for when we moved out of the properties, these dates were ignored and we were billed for a number of days after the move out. It was only by complete chance that I was logged in to check something else and then realised that this billing error had been made, costing me several hundred pounds. To make matters worse, their chat service online is next to useless, no one responds and it was only when i emailed them my grievances and copied in the MD that I got a response. I've decided to now take my business elsewhere as its very basic for a utility company to get the move in and move out dates correct and if they cant do that then what other things are they going to get wrong. I would strongly recommend you avoid and take your business elsewhere.
