Declined credit card but have good credit score (now worried about mortgage)

Hello,
I applied for a credit card with NatWest and was declined based on something negative on the credit check. NatWest could not tell me what this was but confirmed they use Experian to run the credit check.
I checked my credit score (on Experian and other sites including TransUnion) and downloaded my report and my score is in the 'very good' range and the report does not detail any missed payments or anything negative.
I do not currently have any credit cards and my debts are my mortgage and small amount of student loan.
Can NatWest be seeing something that I can't see and how do I find out what they are seeing and fix it?
I am also now worried about my mortgage as my mortgage is with NatWest. Will they call in the whole of the rest of the mortgage as they no longer want to lend to me? Is this something they can do?

Ignore the fake score
You might simply not have enough credit history or your debt to income ratio is too high for them. Do you have another credit card, mobile phone contract etc?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Hi, no other credit cards. I have a SIM only phone contract which I have never missed any payments on. This is detailed on the credit report I downloaded.Nasqueron said:Ignore the fake score

You say my credit score is fake, is there a way to get the real one which NatWest are seeing?0 -
No, NatWest have their own internal scoring process, which is not published. You say my credit score is fake, is there a way to get the real one which NatWest are seeing?2 -
Thank you, what I am really concerned about is NatWest asking for the full amount of mortgage back as they don't want to lend to me anymore. Is this something they can do? I've never missed a payment.TadleyBaggie said:

But to build a credit history you need some other form of credit. Try a credit card eligibility checker.3 -
Thank you! I did do an eligibility checker and it said I was eligible for a NatWest credit card so I am so confused!Isthisforreal99 said:

Eligibility checkers are not reliable. Only NatWest knows whether it will give a credit card.Quoise101 said:

Its likely you have misinterpreted what was said, they have declined you, they will never tell you that was in detail, it was a commercial decision and as long as it wasnt because of your race or religion etc then that perfectly fine.Quoise101 said:I applied for a credit card with NatWest and was declined based on something negative on the credit check. Problem is customers dont like being told they are declined and want an explanation which in most cases the bank employee has no idea of either. Rather than say that though you are fobbed off with telling you to check your credit history. Sometimes people will see something that they didnt know about (the Parking forum here is full of people with unknown CCJs from old parking tickets where they didnt update the address on the car when they moved etc). The majority (probably) won't see anything untoward.
Banks like everyone else have sales targets, acceptance criteria can flex depending on how sales are going. Some banks have particular quirks and just because they dont like you for a CC doesnt mean they won't like you for a mortgage. They are very different risks, for one the mortgage is secured against your home so worst thing is they have to sieze that whereas CCs are unsecured debt so much harder to get repayment on if things go wrong for your customer.
In principle there are circumstances where a mortgage can be called in, if you have triggered something like a sanctions check, but they'd know that as soon as the problem arises and wouldnt be responding just because you applied for a credit card.1 -
Calling in a morrgage due to one failed credit check?
Think you are being a tad hysterical tbh1 -

The only score that matters is the lender's own internal score - which is based on their own proprietary lending criteria. Since it's confidential and commercially sensitive, no-one apart from their risk management department will know what they are.Quoise101 said:

No really, no. Simply put, you don't meet their lending criteria. It may be down to affordability, maybe you don't fall into their target customer profile, it may be something else. It's nothing to worry about - and certainly don't go fretting over the mortgage.
