I actually watched an advert! (since I was watching live TV and I couldn't skip it)Apparently the new Volvo V something analyses the surroundings and slams its brakes on if it detects someone about to run in front. No doubt all cars will soon do this, and equally every child in the land will run across the pavement and turn at the edge to trigger their brakes....I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You are entitled to your opinion that the specific cars are a disaster but the issues mentioned in this thread are unconnected with the power source and drive train so irrelevant whether the cars are EV, ICE or powered by fairydust. The issues referenced relate entirely to the hardware and software comprising the advanced safety features including AEB for example.Ibrahim5 said:These EVs sound like an absolute disaster. Avoid.2 -
Yes, the "City Safety" suite, available on a variety of models since the XC60's launch in 2008.facade said:I actually watched an advert! If they can't find a fault. Then there is nothing for them to work on.Mildly_Miffed said:They would only be "negligent" if all these models, and those sharing the systems, were "deathtraps" in the same way as you describe all the time.
Since they clearly aren't, the issue is a transient one with your car.If it was JUST the ADAS issues, then...Have you had the windscreen replaced? Have the cameras been recalibrated?
Is the sensitivity turned way up, and have you tried turning it down?
But since it's more than that, I'd suggest there's some kind of CanBUS interference or corruption going on. Has the car had ANY repairs or mods? Not even just electrical... Body, trim, towbar... I'm wondering if there's some damaged wiring that's intermittently shorting.
I presume the car was brand new last March, so only 10mo? WELL inside warranty, and that's what ought to be sorting this. Instead of shouting about how it's trying to kill you, work with them, calmly and rationally and productively... Document precisely the conditions at the time the issues occur, including weather and other traffic (do you have a dashcam?) and then request the dealer keep the car and one of their senior service staff use it as their own until such time as the issues do occur.

https://www.volvocars.com/intl/media/press-releases/4109B24767B7733C/In the advert it looked like the lidar mapped out a surface mesh of someone lurking way off to the side, then when they made a bee-line for the road and would pass in front of the car (if they kept going) it slams the brakes on.(I suspect it is not really as sophisticated, and uses the lidar for distance & movement and the camera to identify the object, presumably it will plough straight over dogs, cats, geese, swans, deer etc. but stop for cyclists & pedestrians)Like I said, I can imagine bored children running towards the road and veering away at the kerb to try and trigger these systems. At least it causes less damage to the car than lobbing stones at it, we will just have to drive wearing neck braces!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
