Volkswagen ID.4 is a deathtrap! VW are negligent.

Does anyone else agree that VW, VWFS and Vertu Motors are negligent, ignorant and dismissive.

There are major faults with their ID EV range which they refuse to acknowledge, take responsibility for or take any action!

I’ve tried everything to end my lease with VWFS, because the car they leased me is UNSAFE, DANGEROUS & FAULTY!

I got my ID.4 in March 2025. It’s littered with faults, but these faults don’t show on inspections which is so concerning. This is the reason they refuse to act on it and end my lease. But, because faults aren’t showing, it’ll keep happening, until it causes me or my passengers injury, serious injury or death!

My faults include the emergency brake assist, cruise control, reverse camera, park (handbrake), mileage, the car just cutting out (no power), the keys, locks and warning lights activating.

Even the financial ombudsman have been as lazy and incompetent as the VWFS investigator and refused to do anything.

I’m stuck in limbo now, unless I seek legal action or just hand them the car back and stop all future payments.

on top of this, VW said they care and that my safety and welfare are of their upmost importance, but they lied, as they don’t care and said it’s for VWFS (their own finance company) to sort out.

Having done a lot of research, there are a lot of faults and problems with the VW Id range, yet, VW continue to ignore their customers!

This has caused me so much stress and anxiety and this car will be the death of me if they don’t use common sense and do the right thing.

Any help, advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

How can you expect them to end the lease if they can't find the fault themselves. If there's no evidence it is hard for them to act. I suggest your goal be to find evidence of what you're saying. Without knowing exactly what the issues are, maybe even sticking a dash cam in the car, recording the road and yourself might be a way to get more traction. You could also find an EV expert to have a look and provide a professional opinion to support your claims. As I said, your problem is you need evidence to support what you're saying, I suggest you spend your time trying to find it.

How many of these have you been able to replicate and demonstrate?

We've had an ID.4 (albeit a 23 model) and haven't had any such issues.

I'd second the idea to get a dashcam fitted.

Assuming the dealer has not been able to find any issues with their own diagnostic tools, I'm not sure I'd pay a independent expert to look into it initially. Unless you think the dealer is lying, I'm doubt they'll find anything.

I'd go on the VW ID forum and see if anyone else has had the same problems and, if so, what they've done about it.

Are you sure the car does not give you an audible and visual warning before it automatically hits the breaks? I drove an ID3 for 4 years and have been driving a Skoda Elroq for the last 9 months. They all use the same system and the breaks should only be applied automatically at speeds lower than 30kmph at  higher speeds you get the warning that you should break but if the driver fails to react to that warning it will apply the breaks automatically.

I have occasionally had phantom warnings and when that happens I can avoid any breaking by hitting the accelerator. Turning the wheel will also cancel auto breaking.

More importantly, have you had the car in for the outstanding vehicle recall?

They would only be "negligent" if all these models, and those sharing the systems, were "deathtraps" in the same way as you describe all the time.

Since they clearly aren't, the issue is a transient one with your car.

If it was JUST the ADAS issues, then...
Have you had the windscreen replaced? Have the cameras been recalibrated?
Is the sensitivity turned way up, and have you tried turning it down?

But since it's more than that, I'd suggest there's some kind of CanBUS interference or corruption going on. Has the car had ANY repairs or mods? Not even just electrical... Body, trim, towbar... I'm wondering if there's some damaged wiring that's intermittently shorting.

I presume the car was brand new last March, so only 10mo? WELL inside warranty, and that's what ought to be sorting this. Instead of shouting about how it's trying to kill you, work with them, calmly and rationally and productively... Document precisely the conditions at the time the issues occur, including weather and other traffic (do you have a dashcam?) and then request the dealer keep the car and one of their senior service staff use it as their own until such time as the issues do occur.

These all seem related to VW's "Maneuver Assist and Braking".
The cars sensors help park, reverse and other maneuvers. It monitors for hazards around the car and will brake/stop if it detects something in it's way, that could be anything even a kerb.

A lot of owners complaint about being very sensitive and it can be set to various levels Early, Medium or Late.
It's recommended to set it to Late but the system resets to Medium with every restart.

My wife had an ID3 and we experienced so such issues. In fact, it was a very good car.

These EVs sound like an absolute disaster. Avoid.
