Halifax Clarity card moving from MasterCard to Visa

General question, does it matter if your card is MC or Visa?
Has anyone ever found themselves in a situation where having one or the other would have made any difference?
Amex/Diners Club are clearly not ubiquitous, but does anywhere (geographical or organisational) take only one of Mastercard/Visa?

This particular change matters to me. I've always had a policy that I have one of each that is free for foreign currency transactions in case one network has issues. This change means both my main cards (my other is from MNBA) will be Visa.

My main gripe with this change is that I have to move all my payments from the Mastercard to the new Visa card.
"Any payments linked to your Mastercard, like car insurance, subscriptions or holiday payments, will need to be updated with your new Visa card details or your payments may not go through."
They (Lloyds/Halifax) are the ones who will benefit from the change, or why would they be doing it??, but I am the one doing the admin 🤔

When you get a new card because your current one is expiring, you would have to do all that admin anyway. I agree though, it's very tedious having to change all the payment details when you weren't expecting to as I think it has to be done by a date in April.

That's not correct, if you get a new card of the same type (Visa or Mastercard) the update service of that card type automatically takes care of that.

I beg to differ, as in my experience I have had to update the expiry date and sometimes the 3 numbers on the back, for ongoing payments.

The automatic number update services will maybe work within-network and definitely not work across networks.

continuous payment authority are not processed using CVV (not legal for retailers to store) same as exp is not required. Many retailers would simply get new card details anyway via Visa/MasterCard update systems.

I remember many years ago, that large parts of Visa system went down for a day or two.

Both Visa and Mastercard have had full blown outages in the past couple of years, hence having both is good!
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
