C1 Confirmation in Scotland

I have completed the C1 document and the net estate is less than £300k and not liable for IHT.

Q1. I have noted £8k of family cash gifts on the C1 in boxes 23, 24 and 25. (Boxes 9, 11, 15 plus inventory are all £8k less)
Do I need to note an expanation / breakdown of the cash gifts on the C1 or any other document to explain the £8k difference?

Q2. I will docquette the Will and Death Certificate and have noted in the C1 under Page 2, Declaration, Paragraph 2 (that I am).
I also need to send my ID.
Where do I add my ID on the C1 or should I include in a covering leter?
Also, do I docquette my ID documents the same as the Will and Death Certificate?

Many thanks guys.

Page 5 IHT totals are often different from Confirmation totals. No justification is entered.

Only documents that are referred to in the C1 are docquetted. So normally only a will is docquetted. No docquetting of death certificate or ID documents.

The SCTS website contains guidance on producing ID etc. https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/taking-action/dealing-with-a-deceaseds-estate-in-scotland/large-estates/

If posting, a cover letter is sensible listing contents and a contact phone number. Once approved, you will be phoned and the fee will be taken by card.

The C1 para 2 declaration is important. Are you confident on it? You can post a redacted copy of any content on here for comment.

  • Hi buddy9, many thanks for this information which is most appreciated.

I have changed the C1 para 2 declaration to remove reference to the death certificate and was going to state the following: that I am

(My full name) Executor Nominate of the deceased (full name) as stated in the Will dated (full date) and drawn up by (solictors full name and address). There are no codicils or associated documents.

The Will has been docquetted by (my full name) as Executor Nominate.

Happy to amend / rewrite buddy9 and many thanks again.

I think that the C1 will be bounced back to you. Can you advise me the following so I can suggest how to amend.

    Are you the sole executor?
Are you in any way a substitute executor?
What is your relationship to the deceased?
Do you have the original will?
Is your name and address the same as stated in the will?
Is the deceased's name and last address the same as stated in the will?
  • Hi buddy9
Yes i am the sole executor, not a substitute executor and son
I am also an only child and sole heir to my mums estate.
    I have the original will.
My name is correct but my address was from 35 years ago when i lmoved to Leeds prior to coming home to glasgow 10 years later.
My mums name and address are both correct.

    Many thanks.

The will docquet needs to have the same date as the C1.

You might wish to compare your C1 against completed examples here C1 Scotland Inventory

Suggested wording for para 2 of page 2

    That I am

the son and executor-nominate of the deceased conform to her will dated the [    of    ] which is produced herewith, docquetted and signed by me as relative hereto. In said will I am designed as residing at [insert will address], a previous address.

  • I will use your suggested wording and check against the C1 inventory.

Many thanks for all your help buddy9 which is most appreciated.
  • Hi buddy9, apologies but one more question please regarding the death certificate for Confirmation.

Is the original death certificate the Form 11 completed by the GP prior to registration or the Extract of an entry in a Register of Deaths?

    It is the extract
  • Many thanks again for all your help buddy9.
  • Hi buddy9. Apologies again but just going over all documents and in particular my mums will.
My dad was noted as first executor and then me once my dad died. (Same with the estate)
My dad died in april 2025 which makes me the sole executor and sole heir.

Do i need to change any wording in the above paragragh you wrote for me for "page 2, para 2, That I am"?
