Watch the small print, a switch while moving house can cost you dear.

I moved house while out of a contract with a different supplier. I didn't realise that doing so implied me signing a new 18month contract with them. A whirlwind of a move after being made redundant, and on my own.

I switched to Cuckoo since they offered lower prices and once they switched the service I got served a notice with the previous supplier for over 500GBP. Still a fresh install from Cuckoo would be within the cooling off period right? Wrong, it applies when the contract was signed, not when it was actually implemented. I guess I learned this fact the hard way.

Since I was hoping for the above to apply, I had already switched back to my previous supplier. So Cuckoo served me with the full contract! Over 500GBP in one go. The only thing they offered was to pay this large amount in 3 installments. I event got the pleasure of them referring me to social services to help me cope with the debt. While within the letter of the contract, I find this situation entirely unfair. I hope you enjoy the upfront cash for a service you won't have to provide at all. It's all legal but it shouldn't be.

So, to summarise, you signed an 18-month contract, didn't read the contract terms and broke it to move to Cuckoo, and in doing so you incurred a £500 early-termination charge?
And then, having paid that, you then cancelled your new Cuckoo contract (which you also hadn't read) to switch back and paid another £500 early-termination charge?
    Have I got that right?
