Halfords or RAC for fitting car battery at home?

Can you wait until you get the new battery?
Last time I needed a new battery, I could get it to hold enough charge to last a few days so I added "Battery Replace" to the breakdown policy (I was with RAC anyway that year) and waited a couple of weeks and then called them out and a new battery was fitted. I have to admit, the RAC Patrolman did push back on fitting a new battery but it got authorised after a bit of faff and only cost me £18 all-in.1 -
First you find out what battery exactly is needed both by ID in the car ie.take photos of its brand spec but double check online or contact a independant to be certain .
Once you know the exact uk battery type code ,size etc then post it here ......
Little cars have/need bigger more powerful batterys these days.
Is it a 096 AGM type by any chance ?

Either will be fine, to be honest. 👍 The i20 usually doesn’t need battery coding, so it’s a pretty straightforward job. Halfords’ mobile fitters do this all the time and the 5-year warranty is a nice bonus. RAC are solid too, but you’re probably paying more for the name. I’d go with whichever is quickest or gives you the better warranty.1

About 18 months agi I had to go into hospital fro a procedure and my youngest son took me. He came back couple of hours later and then the car would not start. Called RAC and they told us the battery had died. He could fit a new one at a cost of £270. He had jump started the car so Iwe said no and went home. Rang my local mechanic (we worked together for years) He told me where to go for a new one and said any problems and he would come round and fit it. Bought new one Exide at a cost of £76.00 and fitted it myself.1

Post above is a financial reality check ...you do some research and do it yourself and save a £100-150
Then its easier next time ..and every time after that which adds up over time .
If you dont and you pay out for someone else to do it all which is fine if you have expendable cash .
At £270 for a battery fitted at home ......what are you doing here on MSE paying three times the cost .
Either way I wouldnt use Halfords you have lots of options like get a 3-4-5 yr warranty picking up a battery with a point of warranty return testing and replacement from ECP or GSF not to mention online suppliers and smaller local store suppliers1
