This is the correct answer.
The delivery apps charge an absolute fortune to the restaurants based on the order cost . Either they eat the costs or they pass them on to the customer. This essentially goes to keeping the delivery businesses going. The delivery charge just pays the actual driver (although I'm sure they take their cut of this too.)
As far as I can tell even if you order delivery via KFC itself, it's still going through the delivery app companies at the back end so they still have these costs they either eat or pass on.Honestly if you have the ability to pick the food up yourself people should just be doing this. The amount that delivery companies are creaming off the top is borderline scandalous.

The fact that a significant proportion of food deliveries are now prepared in "dark kitchens" (which may not get the same health, safety and hygiene inspection regimes that a mainstream restaurant gets) might be another reason to think about picking it up yourself.
