One reason we left NW and went to CoOp was they changed the rules for the upgrade of cover to 60 days.liamster said:
Hi would you mind telling me how much extra you had to pay when you declared the health conditions and cover for over 31 nights. Last year I got cover for 60 days with an outfit called gigasure but its now been dropped to 45, own apartment you see so normally stay there 60 or more several times a yearbadger09 said:We have Worldwide annual cover with Nationwide Flexplus account. Mid/late 70s, each with multiple health conditions. Cancellation cover is £5k pp but we have ‘upgraded’ to £7.5k in the past and £10k for our next trip. Cover is also limited to 31 nights so we have to ‘upgrade’ that as well.We think it’s still good value.
Previously you paid for the 60 days extended cover and that upgrade lasted until the next policy anniversary.
Now, the 60 days only lasts for that period. If you go away again for another 60 days you have to buy another upgrade!
Basically what they are doing is creating a separate policy each time for that 60 days that runs separately form your annual one.
My cost was £500 IIRC0 -
I am keen to find out what travel insurance would cost me (including pre-existing conditions) as part of various packaged bank accounts, but I can't work out how to find out without already having the bank account. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

You may be able to call them up and they give you a rough idea but (like most insurance) every quote will be personalised.

You have to do a bit of legwork.
The two main contenders for me were Coop and Nationwide and I had bank accounts with both.
I was able to get quotes from both for pre-existing conditions without opening the packaged bank account.
I don't remember how I got the Nationwide one, but for the Coop it was a case of calling the insurer direct by phone and getting a quote for the supplement, which is an additional charge to the £18 monthly fee.
It had a relatively short validity period, from memory you had to open the bank account and call them back with the sort code and account number within 14 days, or go through underwriting again.
