Beware of Admiral hiking insurance quote if using a discount code
On the list was Admiral and it said that there was an MSE code that you could use to get 20% off, so having already run a quotation that came out £183.20 With no discount code, I was expecting to see the price at £146.56 as all of the details were exactly the same as per our current policy!
But it seems Admiral more wanted to pretend that the Policy was worth over £200 and offer it for £162. Yes, it is cheaper using the MSETRAVEL20 code but they are fooling nobody trying to say that they’re given 20% discount because clearly they’re not!
This was the 4th time I’ve seen this as each year we alternate the lead name on our policy to get the best deal. We actually decided to take out a single trip cover for this carribean trip and thanks to MSE we got that for £63 via Leisureguard flexi (Admiral wanted £112.96 even with MSE code!) So Thanks MSE team for helping us get the best price to suit the trip.
I would just say do your due diligence when buying travel insurance as it does not pay to be loyal.

Its likely the original quote had some form of discount applied automatically so when applying the MSE rather than layering them you'd lose the original discount and get this discount instead. A previous client for example gave online quotes a 10% discount as standard which you dont get if you used a promo code. Whilst the client isnt Admiral it does appear as if the original quote may be been discounted by this sort of amount for the numbers to work.Shortlands_Shopper said:We are Admiral customers and have been for many years and bought their travel insurance at the platinum level and I’ve never had a reason to use it i.e. claim. This year, I wanted to make a change for the last 3 months duration of the Policy & upgrade to worldwide, The quote given was ridiculous @£87 for 3 months so I started to look via at other travel insurance providers via MSE.

I've seen this a few times recently, when looking at both travel and car insurance - not on Admiral but in general. Often a code makes the actual price higher than the first quote. Or coming through via Topcashback made the price higher too. I'd rather save on the initial payment than hope the cashback tracks!2

Yes Michele, we just had another experience with a retailer, you are right. I guess if they get away with it half the time at least they are quids in, luckily most people in our community here are often money savvy so will do their due diligence😃

This is very common with insurance, airport parking and other sites where a discount code or cashback link increases the base price so it isn't as good a deal as you thought it was going to be. Not much you can do about it other than keeping your eyes open.

Just a note to add that I have had Admiral travel insurance for years and they often have the best rates direct rather than using third party sites, so definitely check direct with the insurers when getting quotes, as sometimes the price on comparison sites isn't as good as you think and it is often a slightly different level of cover.
I personally think its good to get comparison site quotes AND direct and some insurers to see who has the best cover and price for your needs.
