Any thoughts or experiences of alternative browsers to Firefox running on windows? Going off that a bit with the addition of various bits of AI, might be time to jump ship now before it gets overwhelmed by AI.
Thoughts so far are:
- Pale Moon
- Waterfox
- Librewolf
- Vivaldi

Edge is the obvious choice, unless you fear 'the man'.0

Not for me I'm afraid, prefer to avoid M$ software whenever possible.Vitor said:Edge is the obvious choice, unless you fear 'the man'.0 -
Presumably also ignoring Chrome?
May be worth saying why you like FF too and why you have short listed the ones you have?
Pale Moon was a fork from FF but no longer is, it can still however run some old plug ins that FF stopped supporting if thats your priority.
Waterfox is still considered a fork from FF
Librewolf is another fork, havent heard or used of it personally but a quick google shows some annoying features like no auto updates and more compatibility issues than FF with certain websites.
Vivaldi is the only one unrelated to FF, it was setup for those disgruntled with the Opera webbrowser though was built independently. Its highly customisable, designed for power users, but as of last year some report it being a bit buggy with many tabs open1 -
I have no regrets in using BRAVE browser.... I find it to be excellent.2

I've tried most of the other culprits but always come back to edge. It just does everything I need without any fuss. I don't sign in to any MS accounts and have the privacy settings slammed down.RomfordNavy said:

That said, there is always someone after your data, you have nothing that some other entity doesn't know about.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

The AI chatbots can be disabled thus:The other AI will have an enable/disable option in the near future.Everything you've listed is effectively Firefox in new colours except for Vivaldi which is based on Chromium.Brave listed above is also based on Chromium.RomfordNavy said:

So you want to avoid Microsoft but you're running Windows?Other operating systems are available.4 -
Not when you need to run software which only runs on windows. Have tried various breeds of Linux but for daily use nothing is as simple and reliable as current versions of windows, even if I don't like it.Neil_Jones said:

I use Pale Moon, Librewolf & Ungoogled.
Most sites are ok on PM but some can be a bit flaky and hang. Never have an issue with LW and can install an updater. Ungoogled I use from time to time.
For when I want to be tracked for cashback I still use FF, but just for that.

DuckDuckGo is very simple and non-invasive. It doesn't remember history but of course you can add bookmarks and favourites. There is AI mode but I think you can turn it off, or at least not turn on AI smart searches1

I don't see the point of switching for something that probably wont happen. Even if it does your, new choice may go the same way.RomfordNavy said:Any thoughts or experiences of alternative browsers to Firefox running on windows?
