Advice please......

About to go away for 11 weeks so car will be unused.

It is a Hyundai Tucson self charging hybrid. 2.5 years old done 15k miles and will be left in an underground car park (open to the elements at the entrance.  The car is used for a mix of long and short runs and is likely to have a 20 mile journey the day before i leave it.

Opinions please on the likelihood of it starting or advice on anything I can do to increase the chance.

Thank you

My guess would be fairly low, the best option would be a trickle charger, which will guarantee it is fine.

Could you disconnect the starter battery when you park it, then reconnect when you get back?
I've done this on several cars myself (some even have features to make it easier; my current Fiat has a quick-release connection at the negative terminal) but you'll need to check whether it's OK for your Tucson.

Maybe get one of these, fantastic piece of kit and hold it's own charge really well. Connect it to your starter battery when you get back and off you go

I left my VW Polo petrol car outside for 3 months when we went to NZ and Aus last year.  It started first time when I got home.

Yes, I'd seen that. Although my son had to use one on his Toyota CH-R Hybrid and it worked with no issues

Small chance it'll start. Larger chance the EV battery will catch fire.

So little chance the hybrid battery will catch fire (never known it in working on hybrids since there inception 1986). Any jump starter will work, even leads from a 1950s land rover  it's NOT an EV
I have jump stared EVERY Toyota hybrid made without problem

I've had several Toyota and Lexus self charging hybrids and the issue with those is that the small 12V battery that runs the electronics goes flat if the vehicle is left or not used enough.

The engine is actually cranked into life by the HV battery and associated gubbins.

When I was away for up to 12 weeks at a time I pulled the IOD (Ignition Off Draw)/Dome fuse which stops the 12V battery discharging, checked with my local Toyota Master Technician as the naming of the relevant fuse has changed a couple of times.

On my return the fuse was replaced, electronics came on and the engine started straight away.

The HV battery only dropped one bar, from 7/8 to 6/8 in that time so had plenty of cranking power.

However, my car was in a locked and well sealed integral garage and not subject to low temperatures.

Ask you Hyundai dealer the best solution but be very wary of the advice above to connect a high current jump start pack to any hybrid.

    Read the manual too!
