Cheque for £100 from Ministry of Justice?

I've just received a cheque for £100 through the post from the Ministry of Justice. The only clue as to what it's for is on the "Remittance Advice" where it says "Fixed Penalty Notice.", there is no explanatory note with it other than that.
IIRC I did receive a FPN maybe 2-3 years ago for hurtling into a 30 area at 37 mph. On the correspondence received at the time there was no reference to points on my license so I paid up £100 having experienced a Speed Awareness Course before
and heard nothing more about it.
Any idea if this cheque is connected with that in some way? I haven't paid it into my bank yet in case it might be some kind of scam.

Was an article recently about some invalid speeding offences due to calibration issues (I think) on specific roads/cameras with the end result being cancellation. I assume you are one of the 'lucky' ones.5

There will be a sort code and account number on the cheque. Google it and see what it brings up. But as above not sure what scam starts by sending valid cheques out.1

Thanks. I had no idea such services existed (which explains my excessive caution).la531983 said:There will be a sort code and account number on the cheque. Google it and see what it brings up. But as above not sure what scam starts by sending valid cheques out.
It appears the account is what it says it is.0 -

The OP seems not to have done that.

I paid £100 after getting a FPN, but I'm not sure what would count as "recent".TooManyPoints said:Was an article recently about some invalid speeding offences due to calibration issues (I think) on specific roads/cameras with the end result being cancellation. An update, and conclusion. I just received an answer to my email to MOJ.
They say it is a refund of a FPN as has been suggested.
Thanks for responses.2 -
Two possibilities:The FPN has been cancelled as the speed camera wasn't producing reliable data. You paid the FPN but didn't submit driving licence details as required, so the FPN has been witdrawn and you'll be dealt with in court.0

Not if it's 2-3 years after the offence.RandomTourist said:You paid the FPN but didn't submit driving licence details as required, so the FPN has been witdrawn and you'll be dealt with in court.0
