Kirk I'm not sure I can get the trap off myself though it's more about getting it back on tight enough. I don't need to create any more problems what with the fire, bathroom light, split washer in the toilet tank 😵‍💫

I will have to try and get someone in but it's tough getting anyone for small jobs.

    Will try the cleaner later.
Photo of pipes. Exits directly down to drain which is below.

    Can't see a vent,
    Sink

Can't get a quick one of drain outside.
Flash camera may do it but it's persisting down outside at the moment.
Looks like you have a basket waste and then another  chrome waste inside it will I fine mesh filter???  That’s what I can see from your photo,

That vent you say is actually the overflow, if they get blocked where they join the basket waste, it will stop air getting into the pipe.

Yes take the screw out and clean under the little grill or carefully poor some hot water in to it, otherwise the main drain can't breathe. Sometimes you need to take the pipe off too clean.  Hot water is the least like to disturb anything.

I did WAIw, the cold weather.
Yes pipe goes onto a dome shaped thing and I guess then into pipe. Photo on my camera because I needed flash to be downloaded onto laptop.

    No b n m without a 50mile round bus trip John.

Neighbours in their 90s apart from a useless one who won't even clean her windows or car.

Dan interesting but I've had a look locally and nothing so useful available. I will ask round people by email and see if anyone has something suitable

Plumb, don't think I have an overflow pipe for it.
It has a vent in the draining board for water to drain into the waste. I keep that clean as well but I'll check.

GD I've been using my plunger repeatedly. I love doing it. I'm experienced 😄 and take all my frustrations out on it. Also tried gently.
You need to stop up the overflow in the drainer when using the plunger. A rubber glove balled up and held tightly in place. Otherwise, plunging does nothing except move air through that overflow.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Boiling water down the plug hole and a bit
more aggressive plunging with the overflow hole blocked might help free the blockage.

Otherwise, if you can find a leather belt, that could be wrapped tightly around the plastic nut. Then hold the waste pipe firmly and try pulling the belt round to the left to loosen.

Thanks, hadn't thought about the drainage grill obvs.
I've got duct tape which might do it.

Ah leather belt. I do a version of that with screws where the head is messed up. Wide elastic band across it and the screwdriver will grip. Satisfying.
I'll have to find something similar.

Busy tomorrow, but will set to Saturday morning.
Hopefully if it's not raining I'll get the pressure washer out and spray the outside drain. My outside tap doesn't have any force and needs replacing and the PW is not overly forceful so a brief squirt should clear anything there.

No don’t take the screw out, better to disconnect the flexible pipe from the waste, as if blocked it will be that end.

op why has the waste got a mesh in it ?

As Plumb says, don't undo the overflow screw unless you are happy to remove it all for cleaning. If you remove that screw, the waste part underneath will very likely fall away, and certainly will do so if you start prodding.
It's awkward but not 'difficult' to refit, tho' needs one hand holding it back up in position, whilst t'other refits grille and screw from above. Check you can do this - do a dry run - before deciding to dismantle it.
And, when you 'plunge', GDB's suggestion of a folded or bunched up rubber glove pressed down on the wee grille is good - use the ball of yer thumb to press it down as you plunge with your other hand, and it should be well sealed. Duct tape will almost certainly just blow off.
Tbh, the overflow is unlikely to be blocked.
