Last time I was in BandQ they were selling plungers for £2. Definitely worth a try before doing anything else.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Had a similar problem recently in the bathroom washbasin. Took the trap off and was expecting a deluge of water but nothing!  Took a torch and shone it down the outlet pipe and could see a solid chunk of black; had to tap it out with an old screwdriver blade and my trusty toffee hammer. It came out in a oner; all sorted now.

Plumb, don't think I have an overflow pipe for it.
It has a vent in the draining board for water to drain into the waste. I keep that clean as well but I'll check.

GD I've been using my plunger repeatedly. I love doing it. I'm experienced 😄 and take all my frustrations out on it. Also tried gently.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Kirk I'm not sure I can get the trap off myself though it's more about getting it back on tight enough. I don't need to create any more problems what with the fire, bathroom light, split washer in the toilet tank 😵‍💫

I will have to try and get someone in but it's tough getting anyone for small jobs.

    Will try the cleaner later.
Photo of pipes. Exits directly down to drain which is below.

    Can't see a vent,
    Sink

Can't get a quick one of drain outside.
Flash camera may do it but it's persisting down outside at the moment.

Have a go and see if the U bend rings can be loosened. If the shelf lifts out, that would make more room for a bowl to catch any water.
    Wear rubber gloves for grip.
It's probably just clogged with food waste.

Tried that but no. I will look for plumber wrench thing.

Just spent an hour waiting for the drain cleaner to work. Wouldn't all go down at once but it was coming out in the drain outside.
If anyone needs to clean an old stainless steel sink this is your stuff 😄

    All went through.
Rinsed with hot water as said and it went down then........ It belched a few times.

I ran the tap and went outside and the water is coming straight through into the drain.
Turned the tap off and the pipe belched 3 times.

Perhaps this is something I have to live with.
But not knowing annoys me 😵‍💫

I'll try and take the ubend off or add it to the plumbers list.

Something like this would help, used carefully with rag wrapped around the plastic ring. Maybe ask a neighbour if they have anything to hand.

Drain cleaners usually make a hole big enough to run through, then all run through that small hole leaving most of the blockage still in place. You need to take that trap apart and give it a good clean, likewise any other parts of the pipe that come apart, either compression fittings, like the u-bend, or push fit. I can't tell from the photo whether that bottom joint is push fit or solvent welded, give the pipe a twist, if it turns you can pull it out and clean further down. Lubricate with washing up liquid to re-assemble.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

You haven't confirmed whether the glugs were a sudden development? When did it start?
The waste pipe exits very low. Where is the exterior wall in relation to this?
And can you see the pipe as it exits, or does it go underground to the drain?

B&M do a flexible 1.5m drain brush that can be pushed through the plughole to clean the u-bend. About £2 - £3 if I remember.
