Settling in for the long haul

I love Janice Hallett's books. It's so clever how she manages to bring everything together with her 'bits & pieces' evidential narrative-structure. 'Twyford Code' was the first one I read & I decided there & then to buy a copy for my sister, so it helped the presents stash too!
I'm currently reading 'Yellowface' - it's been on my reading list for a while & I found it on the library shelves last week.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!1 -
Thanks @foxgloves, I’m really enjoying it so far. I hope you enjoy Yellowface - it’s one I found surprisingly readable.

A posh bath is definitely needed tonight. I knew today was going to be full on so my sleep last night was below par and I’m feeling worse for wear now. PMT isn’t helping.
It was a busy, productive day at work and although it was full on, it wasn’t as bad as I’d feared it would be.
Nothing much other to report. It was a no spend day and we’ve menu planned to make the mega food shop stretch to as many dinners as possible. Tonight was spag bol, and tomorrow will be roast chicken dinner.
I’ve been keeping an eye on my bank account but the insurance money hasn’t dropped in yet. I did get a letter by email confirming the amount though!3 -
Enjoy that posh bath! Sounds like it has been earned.

It’s been a funny old day. I was working from home which I’d been quite looking forward to but just found myself tied to my computer and work phone the whole time and didn’t really switch off at all. It was productive though.
This evening I’ve been feeling a bit lethargic and low but have made a roast dinner for the family and found some time to read my book. I’m feeling like this is PMT and so should feel myself picking up in a few days’ time.I am enjoying my book. It’s The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett and is written as a series of audio recordings, which I’m finding easy and engaging to read. But, I do sense there’s more going on/ to read between the lines of than I’m picking up on. I’m sure all will be revealed. Puzzles are not my forte!
One disappointment of the day was the estimated cost that we had through from the vets for D Dog’s surgery. Their website advertises the price of the procedure (spaying) for around £450. Although the lump removal is happening at the same time (and is surprisingly listed for £0 on the estimate), the quote of £1500 plus was not what we’d expected. I’ve questioned what all then optional aspects are as I didn’t even understand the terms they’d used and we think most of them are likely unnecessary. Now to balance being a responsible pet owner with being MSE. I’ve gone back to query whether they’re charging me for the correct weight dog or not. And why anaesthetic is almost as expensive again as the surgery price when surely that should be included in the advertised amount?!
Can you tell this is our first rodeo of surgery at the vets. The £600 insurance money needs to attract some winnings in record time through premium bonds if it’s going to cover this cost! 😂
Tomorrow, I need to be perking myself up! Lots to be grateful for, but hormones seem to be kicking my backside 2 weeks of every month, making things seem harder than they need to.2 -
I’ve just binned off a book by an author I know and usually enjoy because it was all written as a podcast. I wasn’t enjoying that style at all.

Hump day!
It’s going to be another ridiculously busy day at work but I’m intending to go in with a positive mental attitude. Lots to be achieved.
The insurance money has come through and moved straight into premium bonds. It seemed a sensible place to put it as I know I will need it again for the vets bill in August.
Happy Wednesday to anyone reading.6 -
Hi, you are not tied to your vet, so phone around others in your area and get quotes for the spaying and lump removal. You may find a much better price close by for the same thing. V x

I think this is a sensible idea. Mum recommended the same thing yesterday evening. Thank you ☺️

It has been as busy a day as I expected it to be. Work was long and full on but productive. Tomorrow is a day I’m not looking forward to but at least it takes us a day closer to the weekend.
I’m feeling virtuous tonight, as despite feeling really tired and pre-menstrual, I have had a bath, read some of my book and done a free YT yoga session. It feels like months since my last session as I’ve taken up more evening dog walks instead. I must make the effort to do them more regularly.3
