Well done to Little Miss for getting through her exams. My dog had a growth removed from her ear canal last year. Cost me £2,500!!

😱 nooo! That’s not the amount I had in mind. This is where I regret the non dog-insurance I’m sure. We’ve been meaning to start it for some time, but she’s a staffy and has had no problems at all since being a pup. Such a low maintenance girl and in the almost 8 years of having her, we’ve only ever paid for one set of ear drops. We have a monthly pet plan that covers her health checks, flea and worming and takes a certain % off other treatments I believe (we’ve just never needed them).

Well the vets went quite well today. A clean bill of health was declared. The growth is still harmless and will heal but we are going to have it removed while D Dog goes in to be spayed during the summer. We never had her done when younger as we considered letting her have a litter. (She’s a beautiful girl and quite a special type of staffy) But we never went through with it and it’s the right time to prioritise her health. The clinic will send us a quote and at least we have some time to save for it.
I had some really pleasing news today. We are now £600 better off (well soon to be) as the historical car insurance claim I ‘complained’ amount has been looked into and upheld. I suspect it could have been upheld for a higher value but to be honest I was just grateful it had been looked into and they were willing to adjust to a higher settlement. The person I spoke to was helpful and I was happy to move on especially as they did a bank transfer of the amount while on the telephone with me. It just goes to show that if something feels off, it’s worth asking for it to be reviewed. I have Mr D to thank for that.
The vets came straight after, so deciding what to do with the compensation was an easy choice. It can live in premium bonds until the vet’s appointment in the summer. We just need to wait for it to clear now.
I am not one who ‘wins’ anything, mostly because I don’t enter many competitions (wouldn’t know where to start really!) and am very risk averse. So I feel incredibly fortunate with a few good financial surprises lately - the tax refund, insurance claim additional payment and child benefit have been so welcome.
I am more than ready for the weekend and feel very tired tonight. All being well it’ll be a quiet one. Just one more week of work before a half term week break. Wishing anyone reading a very happy weekend!7 -

Brilliant news about the insurance 🥳 I should add that my dog’s op was quite complex but unfortunately the insurance wouldn’t pay out because the growth had been noticed a while before anything was done about it. Basically if the op had been done a couple of months earlier it would’ve been covered. She completely recovered almost straightaway so I don’t regret paying out.

Thankfully this lump is an easy one to remove by all accounts as it has plenty of loose skin around the area. I still imagine I will need to save a good wodge more cash to afford the full treatment she needs though, so best start another pot!

Great result on the insurance. Good news from the vet too.

Thanks both 😊
It’s been a very quiet Saturday as Mr D is feeling under the weather and didn’t fancy doing a lot. We’ve been out to visit Mum but other than that, it’s been chilled.
No money spent today but I did buy £25 of premium bonds as I don’t need all of my personal spends this month. (£125 total now). I have my eye on a nice waterproof coat from my favourite clothes store, which has an outlet on eBay. It’s perhaps a bit thicker than I need perhaps but is very nice and I do need a waterproof for the warmer months . It’s at a good price so if I don’t have any last minute emergencies from my personal spends, that may be a purchase I make this month.
All meals today have been ‘use it ups’. There’s been variations for the rest of the gang but my meals have been peanut butter toast, beans on toast and veggie lasagne. All nourishing and cheap to boot. We really will need a big food shop tomorrow though!
Tonight’s plans are low-key. Some reading, a bath and if I can motivate myself, a YT yoga session.4 -
Great news on your dog's health and the provision of the £600!

Thanks @Cherryfudge it’s always a relief to get good health news.
Today has been another quiet one. We haven’t had much oomph between us this weekend and I think it might be because we’re due a break from the routine of work and school and know it’s the last week. Must cheer ourselves up but I have a huge week of work ahead and I think that’s playing on my mind.
We’ve spent a small fortune on the groceries for the week as many of our stores needed replenishing. I now can’t be bothered to cook a huge meal so the chicken roast will need to wait till Tuesday when I’m due to be working from home all being well.
Sold an item on marketplace so that’s £10 to share with Mum. Every little helps.
This week I am hoping that the insurance money clears and I can tuck that away in premium bonds until I need it. I’m also hoping that eldest continues to feel positive about his exams. He turns 16 the week after so he has something to look forward to at least.
Wishing everyone a nice Sunday evening ahead.1
