Ordered a necklace for christmas delivery and chose the name we wanted.
When it arrived we were disapointed how it looked compared to how we imagined it looking.
Got in touch with the company who do not agree its either faulty or not as described and they are saying we can return the item for store credit minus the cost to return.
I payed with a debit card and wwould of thought the refund would go onto that rather than store credit.
It meant to say Sydney, would you be happy with how it looks?

Looks like 'Sydney' to me? (but then I spend my days reading historical, very idiosyncratic handwriting!)3

That is not an S at the beginning. I would have guessed a J or P quite frankly.
Best my PC can conjure up in Edwardian script font is this showing S, J and P at the beginning and that necklace definitely looks most like a Pydney!!!
As I understand it under whatever consumer law act you need to quote they should be giving you a full refund because they didn't provide what you had ordered.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Looks like an R to me too, chargeback via card provider is an option, you'd need to return as part of the process, speak to bank and see what they advise.marcia_ said:Looks like an R to me
Retailer should cover the cost of return but if they won't you'll have to cover it for the chargeback process.
Above assumes they have a UK return address (if outside the UK same applies but shipping is going to be expense and possibly problematic).
Alternative if no joy with chargeback is, again return and then send a letter before action.
Worth a go to tell the retailer to goods do not conform to the contract and you are exercising the short term right t reject so a refund must be made to same payment as you don't not agree otherwise.

(16)If the consumer paid money under the contract, the trader must give the refund using the same means of payment as the consumer used, unless the consumer expressly agrees otherwise.
Above assumes UK company. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2 -
The word looks clear to me, bearing in mind the 'flourish' at each end (which would presumably mirror website/brochure photos/samples?), so suspect that you'd struggle to make a case of faulty or not as described, and, given that it's a personalised item, you won't have a statutory right to cancel the purchase for a full refund and are therefore reliant on anything they offer you in their terms.bazdvd said:Ordered a necklace for christmas delivery and chose the name we wanted.

its a shame because it was bought as an offer they had. Spend so much then choose the name necklace for just £10.
They are offering £7.51 store credit that has to be used within 3 months lol.
Because the total order value was high we even got free delivery so cant even claim that back.
Im pleased its not just us that think it looks different to an S but we had no way of previewing the font when ordering.
Its not the money its the principle of it and was meant to be a stocking filler for our granddaughter.
Thanks for the replies and you're thoughts i appreciate them.1 -
My first thought was that it says Rjdney
Then I looked again and saw Jydney.
I had to read the rest of the OP to see it was supposed to read Sydney. I mean I can see it now, just about.
Having bought from Abbott Lyon before (including personalised jewellery) I can share in the frustration that you are not able to know what it would look like prior to shipment. I find this quite surprising really as it should be all to easy to create an online tool rendering their custom font.
Not discrediting the good suggestions above, I think for the sake of a £10 stocking filler, I'd probably just forget about it and move on, life's too short. Though of course, everyone values their time differently and some are happy to go to war for 'principle'.

well i have found the head of customer experince email address so have sent them a picture to see what they think of it.
They are out of office until tomorrow so i will wait and see what they say.
To re order the necklace is £70 so i cant see them being happy about re making it when i got it for the discounted price of a tenner.
If i could have seen a rendering of the font i would never have bought it.
Oh well its only costing me a few minutes of my time and a couple of emails and ill report back if i ever hear anything from them.

Do you know anyone called Rjdney you could gift it to?
Honestly, I'd keep it. At that modest price it's worth keeping it as a conversation starter!4 -
This is one of their necklaces with an 'S', doesn't look anything like yours!
