Wifi extender query

Not much you can do if infrastructure can't reach your house.
Anyway, if you purely want to extend the wifi to the sun room, you can go for mesh wifi/ wifi extender/ powerline with wifi.
But none of the above would help with the speed from ISP.
By the way, have you try the mobile data speed form others mobile phone provider?1 -
I must admit to being a little confused as to what the problem is! If I can ask a few basic questions and can you answer them specifically as far as you can? All intended to understand and clarify what hardware you are using and clarify what you write about the problem for posters to help. At the moment it is unclear to me where the problem(s) lie. it coud be external to you a fault is just a simple need to reconnect within your property - basic connections first ignoring speed at present.Does TT say their communication to the router is working OK? If so can they tell you what the current network to router speed is? You will obviously not be expecting anything greater than 3Mb/s download and maybe 500-800 upload. That will give you a confirmation that the router is working and what the max speed that you see will be. (It will be just slightly less than what TT say owing to extra processing that is needed.)Do you also use the telephone line for a landline phone and if so is that working and noise free. Is the router plugged into a phone socket via a filter (or one built in to the landline master socket)? If all is well there move on....You say speed is 0, how are you determining that and is it from a phone or laptop that you are using? As suggested earlier can you plug directly into the router via an short ethernet cable; does that make any difference. The aim here is to understand what you are reporting and to ensure that the router is working to your device before moving on to consider WiFi. A speed reading of Zero indicates there is no connection somewhere either at TT's end or our at your property or between the twoWhat is it you use again, a laptop (Windows, which or Apple operating systems) and brand and for that matter the router. This info will help to get advice on here at MSE forum. Both on a phone and a laptop you should get a symbol that tells you if you have network connection via the router. On a laptop you should have a symbol about the Network and its status. If it is wifi then you will have a symbol with the signal strength (bars or rings or similar to indicate signal strength). Which are you using and what do you get to see? as an example on my PC I have a Network symbol on the bottom task bar and clicking it gives basic network status. On my smart phone I have horizontal bars and up and down arrows for signal activity.Probably enough questions for now.........

I tried to answer your questions by quoting your post but it won't post for some reason
There was an intermittent fault with internet and no landline a few days ago - open reach have now fixed this but it hasn't changed the internet speed - this has always been awful. If I try to watch tv on my lenovo laptop it ends up buffering etc.
If I go upstairs or to sun room it is worse so used to have a wifi extender in sun room that made it slightly more bearable - my landline and router are on a double socket which has been replaced by open reach today as part of a three part issue
When I log on to TT and ask what speeds I am getting it comes up with 0 mbs but normally it is no more than 1 mbs - as long as I have lived here the speed has been awful and no amount of research seems to offer a solution and other providers either can't provide to my area or the speeds would be the same - ironic really as my TT package says faster broadbandThe mind is like a parachute. The Government have been subsidising fibre broadband in rural areas. It is surprising you haven't a better service. In our village we have fibre to the cabinet from Openreach, fibre to the premises from two providers with their own fibre in their own ducts/poles... quite a mess, but our village has at least a choice and speeds up to anything you care to pay for. Prices for fibre to the house are from £22 per month for 100 Mb/s up and down, to £33 per month for 1 Gb/s up and down.We also have EE mobile broadband with download speeds on 5G of around 50 to 200 Mb/s download depending where you are in the village (the other mobile networks only offer 4G here at the moment). You could always opt for Starlink, https://starlink.com/gb That is about £55/month1

no sign of fibre yet although it has been installed 1 mile up the road in the next village - lucky to get 4g here too
can't afford starlink sadly

Is 4G outdoor any faster than the 1 - 3 mbs currently getting?
If yes, there is an option of external 4G router
Again, have you check the speed of all of the mobile network?1 -
We are unable to get fibre here too, so we use https://www.airband.co.uk - not sure if it's available in your area, but maybe similar WISP services are available perhaps?littleredhen said:no sign of fibre yet although it has been installed 1 mile up the road in the next village - lucky to get 4g here too

It looks like a combination of poor connection speed - 1mbps eek - and poor wifi coverage in the house. If you can't afford Starlink and you have checked the coverage for ALL mobile network providers at your property, not just your current network, then you can't improve the speed. If it turns out one of the others is better then there's nothing stopping you taking out a contract with another provider. As for coverage in the house I wouldn't bother with wifi extenders, get a mesh system. It sounds like a base router with one other node would do the job for you.2
