My internet speed is pretty poor due to the rural area I live in and there is nothing I can do about that so a while ago I bought a wifi extender off Amazon for use in my sun room because my router is in my lounge and the internet in the sun room was so poor. Fast forward and the booster seems to have stopped working although lights on etc - so my question is do I buy another and try again or am I wasting my money - I've just checked the speeds and it says I currently have 0mbps download and upload whereas normally I think it us under 3 mbps - I've just had a fault fixed so that maybe why it is still showing as 0

I think you're confusing extending WiFi coverage with optimising the broadband speed from your ISP

I probably am - yes I want to extend the wifi coverage - the product I bought was a wifi repeater - do I need to change the title of my post

Maybe give the full details of the (broken) product you have and tell us how it's connected?

If you have poor speed from ISP, having a wifi extender/ mesh wifi won't solve the problem.

What is the speed if you stand close to router?

still says 0 mbps when I am sitting in front of it - this is the speed to my router - don;t really understand what it is saying as speed to my devices

Who is your provider?  And what does your router look like?  Are there any lights on the router that flash when they didn't previously?  Or is a light red?  My first point would be to contact your provider and see what they can do, they can often reset the router or ask you to do it and go from there.  Once they have confirmed that there is no problem, they might be able to suggest options.  But I wouldn't buy boosters off them because as stated above, a weak signal gets weaker when it travels, and a booster will pick up a weak signal and just throw it further, which will get weaker as it goes.  A better solution would be an ethernet cable somehow to your sunroom, and then a wireless access point which plugs in and throws out wifi in the room.

Could you maybe look at 5g routers if your phone signal is adequate?  Or there is skylink which is expensive but may be worth the money to you?

If you want to test what speeds you have, you can go to fast.com or speedtest.net and use your phone to test in different areas but switching your mobile data on/off and your wifi on/off

hi I'm with TT but there is nothing they can do - I have enquired many times and when I look on MSE and put in my postcode basically the same answer because of how rural I am.  TT get away with issues because my contract says UP TO 3mbps so I can't get any other answers

oh and my phone signal is also appalling I am with ID mobile and barely able to use it on data when in the house as the signal is so poor but can use it through wifi - again I did all the checks with MSE and basically which network ID use (can't remember who it is) they are about as good as it gets in my area
