I hope you will forgive my ignorance as totally new to EV and TBH I dread the thought of ever driving OH new EV car.  But several days before Xmas it arrived and so did us changing with our exsisting supplier Octopus  to  Intelligent Octopus Go.

So this related purely to a house wife who was told by hubby put dishwasher or washing machine/dryer on after 11.30 pm. Am I misunderstand some things on this long thread does this tariff only give reduced electricty charge to the EV charging between 11.30 and 5.30 am.....

    Thank you

Yes, you are misunderstanding. What they have said

    - House usage is always cheap between 23:30-05:30
    - In addition you'll get up to 6 hours EV charging at the cheap rate, that can be any time during the day, and your house will also get cheap rate during those "slots"
    - Any additional EV charging over the 6 hours will be charged at your peak rate, even if between 23:30-05:30
    - The 6 hours are measured midday to midday

They've stepped back a bit from their message that this will be implemented before the end of January. I think they've realised its more complicated than they thought to implement (probably related to the billing complexities).

    Not exactly.
Your whole house (including your dishwasher, but not including your IOG-linked car or charger) will get cheap electricity from 1130pm to 0530am.
Your IOG-linked car or charger will get cheap electricity for up to six hours a day, which could be at any time of day depending on grid conditions. Not solely overnight.
If your car gets cheap electricity between 0530am and 1130pm, your whole house will also get cheap electricity at the same time.

Any scheduled cheap charging slots allocated during peak hours change frequently and can't be relied upon. Cheap rate is guaranteed 11.30pm to 5.30am so it's best to run dishwashers, washing machines, etc during these times. Most appliances have a delay function so it's pretty straightforward.

Thank you for the clarity on this.

Making use of this :) Just to add the previous Octopus tariff( locked in till June 26) the  lecky was about 5 pence cheaper per unit so a bit of a jump....but the low rate11.30 to 5.30 am is a winner. Despite me waiting up till 11.30pm to switch on....ned to invest in a couple of timers.

Why are you staying up to start charge on IOG???

The whole point of the tariff is Octopus will give you cheap slots out of the off peak times.

EG. Set daughters to charge overnight @ 10:00. By 23:30 she had 10% already added to car. Then got the rest she wanted overnight.

If you are that worried, then your chargers app should have something like a cost cap, that would stop peak charging, or you set charging times in your car...

This is MSE, Why miss out on cheap usage in the house in peak times???

I think @Vegastare was thinking of timers for starting domestic appliances during the overnight period, rather than for starting an EV charge.
